New vehicles are even easier; the hard part is finding a dealer that will sell you new. If you want the rebate you need a US address and the vehicle must first be registered in the USA. You then would have to pay state tax and then export the truck to Canada. If no rebate is available your biggest chore will be finding a dealer within 500 miles of the border that wil sell to you.

I will be making some calls in the next few months. Rebate, what do you mean?

I was talking with a fellow member here about the us truck in canada. He said it was easy. Pst/Gst you can't run from - buy in canada or fron us to canada there going to get there pst/gst.
The truck is made in texas and therefore duties aren't applicable as it american made. (now a rav 4 made in japan out fo the us is a different story - nasty - just buy in canada)
DRL module is $25 at cantire.
You will need to provide the paperwork and give them 72hrs notice at the border before brining back.
He got a sr5 trd dc 4x4 for $36 can done.
Then i got to reading of all the incentives the us people are getting, 4k rebates and stuff like that. Could work out to be a good deal for little effort. Heck goto vegas for the week , have fun , send in papers a few days before returning home and you get a good deal and a vaction to boot for less than the truck in canada.
When i was buying my 06 dc ltd 4x here at the dealership i had a heck of a time getting a deal of anysort. I guess all the dealers band togeather and sell for list. I tried using the us bought truck as leverage but no dice. They were concerned about warranty issues and such , i told them it's a north american warranty. Of course they weren't giving up any info. I got a little off (1500) and have been told i did well on a toyota bought in canada. I did get 3.9% on 5 years and buying local builds a relationship on service. Buying an american truck and getting it serviced even a few miles out of warranty i'd expect them to say no, on the other hand a truck bought and serviced at the dealership would most likely be mistaken for having a few less miles on it .
I'm happy with my truck and got a good deal in it with a good rate for buying in canada.
An intersting note during my paperwork : If i were to move to the usa i would be required to pay out my loan to toyota canada before removing the truck from canada.
Then the other day i'm driving by toyota and notice the exact same truck (mica 06 dc ltd) , I'm like .. dang as i had the only one on town in blue. Manager/co owner is getting me a new window sticker for my records and i was checking in on the progress. I asked him where he got the 'parts truck' from (it was a 05). He said it came from the us. He couldn't find any trucks in canada and ended up buying 5-6 trucks from the us and prepare them for canadian use (speedo's , drl ,etc). I asked him about the warranty thing. He said they will honor the warranty but if a dealership wanted to get sticky they could make the owner pay for the repair then get re-imbursed from the us dealership. Sounded possible but who knows.
This has been my experience on the topic.
BTW my 06 ltd was 49K can , this 05 dc ltd with 20k (km) is asking 43 !!

I wonder if buiyng from a US dealer, if you would have to have the full amount ready to pay, or if you could finance through Toyota USA.
Looking at the new US 2007 prices, a limited 4x4 crewmax, is 41,850 us, factor in a canadian dollar of 88 cents exchange (its currently around 85, but 88 cents is a rough average of the last 6 months) and you could have this truck for $47,500. I'm willing to bet this same truck in Canada will list for $55k - $58k, or $10k more. I'm sold. I really want to see Toyota Canada prices.

I've heard the access toyota thing is gone...was a pain when I bought my 03 4Runner. I saw a Yahoo group from a law firm about a suit against Toyota for price fixing. I live in Fort McMurray and a co-worker went in and tried to haggle on a Rav4, the sales man literlly laughed at him and told him the price was on the window, if he didn't want to pay it he could leave now because someone would be along in a short time who would pay.....

I've heard salesmen say there isn't as much mark up on Japanese prices, so they can't haggle the same as North American manufacturers.

Just spoke with the salesman who took my deposit. He was just at the training day. While pricing has not been released he was told the Toyota Canada is well aware of and will be doing something about the big price difference between USA and Canada. They are taking this into account on the new Tundra and do not want to see people cross-border shopping. I told him it had better be competitive "or else". He seems to think it will be. I mentioned that based on the Toyota USA pricing, my C/M should be under CDN$50k with the exchange. He really seems to think they will not be far off.
I sure hope so!!!

Hey brow,
Have they given you an approximate delivery date for your Tundra yet? Just wondering when we can expect to see them in the dealerships up here.

Lets hope so, but looking at the current 2007 models, camry, 4-runner, they all seem to be about 10% more than USA after a exchange of 85%. The matrix was cheaper in Canada however. I only compared a few vehicles and not all Toyotas.
I really wouldn't mind paying about 8% more for the Tundra, after exchange of 85%. Anymore and I'm going south for an 08 this fall.

Wow, $50k for a CM Ltd...where do I sign. After the story about it being $60k my wife has been looking at the Silverado/Sierras's in town everywhere we go...and she is the hardcore Toyota fan, had one long before me, and will never give up her 4Runner.
My breaking point is around 50 for a crewmax ltd with the 5.8....+- is ok ...well probably + but to pay 55 +gst or say close to 60 is just not worth it to me...I will not use the truck for work but rather for towing sled trailer, the occasional sled in the bed and going out to a cabin......I could probably buy a 2 yr old ford for around 25-30k...not as many options but at half the price it does have some appeal...My big reluctance with ford is that a buddy has had 2 f250's....One required two new trannys and the other required one..Dealer never was able to give an answer as to why it was happening....not sure if the tranny problem is limited to the 3/4 tons or whether this is a common problem with fords...anyone know???
