The Canada dollar is worth 89.6% of the USA dollar, so a fair price in Canada would be: $36,450 us / 89.6%
= $40,678 can
this is $8k less than it actually retails for in Canada.
I wonder is there is this big differnce based strictly on the gains the Canadian dollar has made on the US dollar in the past 5 years?.
Or maybe someone could shed some light, on any extra surcharges/ fees, vehicle manufacturers pay in Canada?
Don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining about this big difference, I'm just really curious about it.
If theres no real reason for this, Toyota (and others) must be making very little off USA sales per vehicle, and making a killing of Canadian sales per vehicle (Like $8K more per truck).
Any thoughts are welcome.

Why are M14 type rifles So much more $ in the USA?
A new Springfield M1A rifle will set you back about $1500.00 + here in the states.
A superior version of the M14 rifle sells for $399.00 in Canada and can not be imported to the US
Sorry - Back on topic:
Can you get yourself south of the border and drive home in a new Tundra?
Also one more thing, the prices are all fixed for all dealers - They're also based on the price that is given to you when you price your toyota out at www.toyota.ca using the "Price Your Toyota" feature. They just add on the fees applicable to the province. Not a lot of flexiblity there either. They will not even bend over backwards if you want them to drop the price.. the price they give you is the one listed out clear and loud too.
And in response to H2O Man's post:

You could go south of the border and drive back to Canada in a new Tundra, but you'll be paying duties and the ying yang up the wazoo just to bring that to Canada. Sucks doesn't it? Well it does for us.
Another thing we're not allowed to own guns here in Canada unless we have a FAC or certificate issued upon completition of gun course. As well as a FP (Firearms Permit) is required here too. Right now, they are working on an way to scrap the registry but still require people to register their firearms and extend the Amnesty period until next year.
I do know that anyone can import a vehicle to Canada and save most fees and duties, only if the vehicle is 6 months or older, and has more than 12K miles on it. Thats what a used car salesman told me once.

Some people live an entire lifetime and wonder if they have ever made a difference in the world, but the Marines don’t have that problem. —President Ronald Reagan

Also you'll pay the GST + HST too on import. The real difference disappears pretty quick as well.

Small price to pay to drive the best truck built in North America and live in the best country in the world......

LOL -- how can it be the best when it includes Quebec and has produced Celine Dion (get them a kayak and let them touch those things!!!)
j/king of course, most of my family lives in AB & BC, and my father just got his US citizenship a few years ago...
btw, it wasn't too long ago that I knew ppl were going across the border into Canada to buy Honda Odysseys as they were ~$6-8K cheaper after currency conversion. I was told by a Honda dealer I was in contact with that it was b/c of the Canadian economy and that most ppl could not afford to pay the same prices they could charge in the US. The dealers kept conversion kits onhand and installed for ~$400 -- good deal if you were in the market for a minivan that was $25-35K (I was at one time, although never went through with it). I believe the US auto dealers successfully lobbied the gov't to close the loophole recently by taxing the crap out of importing them in...

I am in Canada and the warranty concerns would preclude me from going south to pick up a vehicle. While you may save a few thousand the potential for aggravation makes it not worthwhile to me. When prices are finally released it will be interesting to see what comparably spec'd tundra's are selling in each country.....Toyota has the ability to factor in the recent exchange rate as its has been fairly high for over a year now....

Very true, vehicles were cheaper in Canada only 10 years ago, so maybe it goes in cycles. For now there more expensive in Canada, but maybe in 5 years it will be the other way around.
But, why the hell can't the auto dealers just factor in the exchange rate for that year and charge a fair price in both countries. Obviusly USA buys more vehicles, but I'm sure Canada makes the same amount of new vehicels per capita as the USA. Free Trade , my a$$.

Didn't even know they had Toyota's in Canada. Was up there goose hunting a few years ago for 8 days in Saskatchewan. Other than mine, I never saw another Toyota truck. Had a few guys come up and ask questions about it...
