Default New Tundra

I'm looking for a new 2006 Tundra DC 4x4 and found a dealer that say's he will give it to me for dealer invoice. The problem is what he say's is invoice and what edmunds.com say's is invoice is 2 different numbers. I have been quoted $30,514 by the dealer for options include keyless entry, JBL stereo, TRD package, LSD, overhead console, all weather package, privacy glass, carpet floor mats/door sill protectors and the anti theft system. New car prices, used car pricing, auto reviews by Edmunds car buying guide say's the price should be $29,826. The dealer tells me

"I am sorry to say Edmund's is a guide and Toyota prints it own invoices. We are using Toyota's numbers as a reference point because it is the only set of numbers that are accurate. We never want argue over a third parties accuracy, because it is a mute point. Since Toyota builds the vehicle and makes up its own invoice, there is really not much point saying Edmund's as "guide" is inaccurate, but rather be thankful they are as close to the real thing as they possible can be. We want your business. I hope I have been helpful. "

What do you guys think, is edmunds just a "guide" or should there numbers be right on. I'm in the Seattle area does anyone have any dealers they recommend.

Found on edmunds:

The invoice price does not include any fees that may be charged by the manufacturer to dealers in a particular area of the country, such as local advertising fees. edmunds.com does not track or provide such local fees.

If an advertising fee appears on the invoice, it is an actual cost that the dealer paid to the manufacturer when buying the vehicle. In other cases dealers may choose to write in their own ad fees on the consumer sales contract. However, in either case these advertising fees are just one example of the dealer's cost of doing business. As with all such dealer-itemized fees, consumers should treat as "negotiable" any advertising fee they are asked to pay.

Many consumers attempt to determine the dealer's "actual cost" for a vehicle and then "allow" for the dealer to make some profit. However, the invoice price is almost always higher than the amount the dealer actually ends up paying to the manufacturer. This results from a variety of discounts offered to the dealer that do not appear on the invoice. The two most common discounts are "dealer holdback," and "manufacturer-to-dealer cash" - both of which are available on edmunds.com - but there are often others that are not generally known and that are based on other factors (for example, the dealer's sales volume for a particular month).

Also note edmunds also doesn't include any destination charges, which I think is where you're seeing the difference in your case.

If it's the truck you want, the 700$ shouldn't be a big deal. Figure out how much diff that makes in teh payment if you're financing. You will feel silly.

I just got a similar truck, and the dealer's invoice was also above the edmunds.com invoice. They claimed their invoice price included an "advertising fee" that varies by region, and therefore doesn't show up on edmunds. I don't know whether this is true or not, but I wouldn't be surprised to see Toyota cramming more fees into the invoice and then kicking them back to dealers since so many people look for the invoice price as a baseline.

The edmunds fine print does say that the invoice can have extra region-specific charges, so the dealer's probably right. Regardless, you can probably do better than the dealer-inflated invoice price. I'd at least push him for the Edmund's invoice price. It doesn't really matter what the "real" invoice price is; tell him you think the market value of the truck is below the quote he gave you.

BTW, I don't think the edmunds TMV reflects recent market conditions. Don't let that hold you back.

The dealer has told me that he will not go any lower. He still is lower than any other qoute I have received. I feel his price is ok but I think I could do a little better. I also have a trade-in so that complicates it a bit. I'm going to go down there early next week and see if we can work out a deal. Thanks for the advice.
