This is a discussion thread titled "How much did you pay for your Tacoma", within the Pricing and Dealers forum, part of the Marketplace Forums category.
The truck is 24,600 so with the 10% off and the $500 dollar rebate you're saying I should pay $21,640? I can't get dealers below the 22,300 mark...any suggestions on how to get them to go down? Thanks,
I really appreciate your help.

10% off $24,600 = $22,140 (that is the selling price) + doc/ttl.
Then you subtract the rebate and/or any trade equity. The rebate is usd as a down payment and does not come right off the top. Lot's of internet automotive websites like to factor in your rebate to show you your "net" savings.
So let's say you buy the truck for $22,140 + doc fee of say $55 (will vary from states), then add the tax (say 8%, or whatever your local tax rate ) = $2397 + DMV fees = ~$225 = ~$24,817 less $500 (Rebate) = $24,317 OTD. Of coure, any additional trade equity or cash down payment will lower this cost, but for being OTD for under the original MSRP is a great deal!
Not sure what the actual invoice on that truck is, but at 10%, that's roughly $2500 off and should put you damn near invoice. Listen to Cory...he knows what he's talking about.

If ten dealers tell you that 22300 is the best price, there is no reason to not believe them. Every market is different but if you have already ask for best price and none of them went any lower, what are you still trying to accomplish? Walk in the door on the 31st of this month, pick one in stock and offer $21500 and I bet one of them will go below 22300, You wont get it all the way down but you should be able to get a little bit more off. When they think you are actually serious and will BUY THAT DAY. That is when you will probably get there best price especially if you are dealing with the regular sales staff. No dealer is in a hurry to help you buy a car from another dealer. No dealer just wants to be shopped.
I hear all the time from people that tell you to tell the dealership that you plan on getting bids from a ton of dealers, so just give me your best price. For some reason you feel that gives the dealers some incentive. The only incentive it gives the dealers is to get rid of you so they can get a real customer. So dont make it sound like black mail. You can however make it sound like you are a well informed educated buyer and expect to be treated as such. There is a right way and wrong way of saying everything on both sides of sales.
Personally I would always try to buy from my local dealer. Get quotes online from other dealers, and tell your local dealer what your honest best price is and if he can match it, you will buy the car from him. If he doesnt, then release the hounds and go bug every dealer you can. I do still believe in local loyalty if they have earned it. If they have treated you bad in the past , then forget them and move on to the next closest dealer.
and fyi, those little form emails that are online to help you email the dealers dont work, Those are usually the last ones I respond to if at all. Be straight up with me and I will always be straight up with you.

Cory, your starting to make me think twice about car sales men / women. I have to agree. Even as a consumer I want to check out the different models before I make my mind up on which type of truck I want and I dont like the "What would it take for you to drive this home today?", speech. On the other hand I went to a couple dealerships and asked if someone could unlock a vehicle so I could compare the quality of the interiors and have been told to come back when I ready to buy. Last vehicle I bought, my Ford, and went looking for a specific sales person since he was so helpful even though he didn't have the vehicle I wanted. I later went to a dealership owned by the same person and requested him so he could get the sale.

funny thing is when i went and bought my motorcycle, they played the game hard core and they even knew what I did for a living so i kept telling him what he was getting ready to say before he said it, It was kind of fun. I moved $78 on total price after 90 minutes and bought the bike. If your offer is a reasonable offer, there should be no reason not to stick to your guns. But from what I hear most of the time on here, a lot of you want to offer thousands under and play the game, If you really want to play, someone will play with you. I can assure you that I wont. I dont have the time or the patience, lol

I hear ya' on that! When the new 350Z's came out back in '02/'03, I wanted to test drive one as I was very interested. The dealer had about 10 of them on his lot and wouldn't let me test drive one of them. Huh? He gave me this big ol' long speech about how they want to keep "0 miles" on them for delivery, blah, blah, blah...
I told him that I was intereted in buying the car, but wanted to see how it drove in comparison to some other models I was looking at. He told me that virtually every car they received had been pre-sold. Again, huh?
"If that's the case then why do you have 10 unsold cars on the front of your lot, with no "sold" tags?"
After all my questioning, the guy said he'd give me a test drive if I gave him a $500 deposit. Once again, huh?!?!!? We're talking about a car that had a base price of $26k! Needless to say I left 'cause he was a moron. He tried to give me the whole history of the Z. I didn't give a crap, I just wanted to see how the car felt. The next dealer I went to gave me a test drive, but it was on a demo that had 7,000 miles on it. I wasn't all that impressed. No offense to Nissan enthusiasts, but...it's a Nissan I wanted to test drive, not a freakin' Bugatti!

i went to go test drive a car 10 years ago at another car maker, I wont mention names and I am embarrassed that I did but they told me no, salesman told me it was too hot for a test drive. and I was working for toyota at the time. I was floored. I guess he didnt want to stop smoking and drinking his coffee, lol
so it happens.
At my job, it is all about the test drive, make them fall in love with it and wrap it up when you get back. That is car sales 101. Anybody that doesnt follow that is an idiot
now if I know I got some jack wanting to test drive 20 cars because he got nothing better to do, that aint gonna happen.
But I am always good for ONE, LOL

It always about the numbers. Maybe its not the sales person fault at times since I think the dealers come up with some of these tactics that that are used. Life is about sales and not happiness. Everything we do in life we are selling ourselves, services or products when it comes down to it.
Damn, I'm a whore and just realized it.

I just purchased a 2007 Tacoma 4x4 Access Cab. It's Silver with black tire flares, and black grill. Its a 6 speed with the v6 engine. Sticker Price was 24,662...Paid $23,845 Out the Door. Pretty good price for these trucks I think.

$22,600. It was pretty hard to get them to even there. I was talking to several dealers about the same truck and this was about the best price I received. Could have drove a couple hours and got another 200 off but I bought from the dealership about 5 minutes from my house.
