This is a discussion thread titled "Rip-Offs on Tundras", within the Pricing and Dealers forum, part of the Marketplace Forums category.
There are alot of parts that are only available through SET and GST. TMS likes to offer some of the same parts but usually at a higher price. The park pilot is a part that is only available at SET to my knowledge but not sure about GST. We have alot of customers with the park pilot on there cars and they love it and have no issues with it what so ever.
What is it exactly that you don't like about it?
Probably doesn't like the fact that he is getting a aftermarket part, that is added after it left the factory, when he is led to believe he is getting genuine Toyota parts/accessories. I am glad I don't live in SET/GST area, if I did, I think I would buy outside the area and fly out to pick it up...

Just an update on where i am at with my Park pilot problem.
The Sales manager at my dealership finally called me on Tues. He listened to my problem with getting Park Pilot instead of the factory Sonar, but said the couldn't install the factory Sonar at the dealership. He agreed with me that Park Pilot is an inferior produst.
I told him I'm still not satisfied and he suggested that he would give me a "good deal" on a new truck, like my existing truck, but with factory Sonar. this suggestion got my interest, but I wondered if I would need Vaseline to handle his "good deal".
He said they had a truck similar to mine that had Navigation/Sonar/backup camera/radio combo on it coming in. I didn't mind this since the Park Pilot, radio, and port installed Backup Camera, that I have, cost almost as much as the Navigation etc package. The "joker in the deck" came when he said that i couldn't get the TRD Off Road package with Navigation on the same truck. I know this is BS since several people on this forum, in the SE Toyota region like me, have Navigation and the TRD Offroad package.
I told him that if they got a truck like mine, with factory Sonar to call me to discuss a trade.
So here I sit, still with the crummy Park Pilot instead of factory Sonar. I may never hear from the dealer again, but don't know what recourse I have. Any suggestions?
I can definitely see why he is the Sales Manager. He turned a potential unfixable customer service issue into an additional sales opportunity on new Tundra.

That's what I had to do. That's what StatCoder is doing. I feel sorry for my local dealers but F**k GST and SET. I refuse to do business with either.

You are absolutely correct. He, the sales manager, turned my complaint to his advantage, using my want (my want to have factory Sonar). Now I sit, with the ball in my court, waiting for him to call me.

Actually TG...the NAV and TRD are hard to find together in the SET...I ordered mine a month and a half ago, and they were barely able to get it. As it stands...from doing checks on inventory in the SET, mine is the only one out there...I could be wrong, there could be other special order trucks that are considered sold and not howing up in the inventory sytem. So he may not be blowing smoke up your A.
Personally, I would be pissed in your situation, and I would work with the guy to get the truck that I wanted. If they can't find a TRD, maybe have them upgrade the shocks and install some fog lights. Is TRD that important to you? hmmm...just trying to think of options for you.
Definitely work with the guy though...it's not so much the dealer's fault...heck, he prob didn't know the difference between onar and park pilot until you brought it up.
Oh and BTW..if any ladies in the Gym ask, I'm not single anymore
If I don't go down to the farm tomorrow afternoon, I'll have my new Tundra at Hampton Hill on Friday morning if you want to check it out (Sonar). I typically leave around7:45, but can adjust that.

Since you made it clear that you think the port-installed sonar is inferior and next to useless, I would tell them that you want a refund for the price of the Park Pilot, pocket the money, and forget about it. It's probably less than $100 worth of hardware anyway.

Don't make excuses for Toyota! They have one of the worst dealerships in the nation and are just a half a step up from the big three. This is one area that has always dissapointed me in the last 20 years I have been purchasing Toyota's. All dealerlships are crooked and will rip off a disabled Vet if they get the opportunity. Honda IMO is the best dealership all around for non luxury type cars. My wife and I went to the Lexus dealership to buy her a IS350 and I felt like I was at a shady Ford Dealership.
I have purchased two Toyota pickup trucks (93 extracab and 04 Tundra) and two Lexus cars (02 IS300 and 06 IS350), each vehicle from a different dealership here in Los Angeles. All have been pleasant experiences, the Lexus dealerships have been first rate during the sales and during service. I'm sorry you had such a bad experience, but that should reflect on just that dealership, and not all Toyota or Lexus dealers as a whole.

Sorry to hear about your luck. This whole situation sure sounds screwy to me. Did not realize that dealerships did such thinngs like this. I'd take the one fella's suggestion-have them uninstall it, get your money back, and count your losses.
(Personal thoughts on sonar assist, along with alot of other options on new vehicles today, is that it's a big waste anyhow----for those that can't back up/judge distance)
Well I am keeping my fingers crossed. Looks like my dealer has found a truck that matches my order coming out of the Texas plant the middle of next month. They ended up having get the regional supervisor involved to swap an order that was suppose to be going to another region. I have tried to make it as clear as possible that I will only accept the factory sonar option SO and not the Park Pilot. They tell me it is coming exactly as I ordered. Hope their right .
If you can't get factory Sonar, save your money. Believe me, the Park Pilot, at more cost than factory sonar, is a waste. This is the voice of experience speaking.

I would have agreed with you 100% until buying a Longbed DCab. It's got a longer wheelbase than an equivalent Furd Superduty and with a deeper bed and higher tailgate I have come to like the factory SO option very much. That durn tailgate is so big I can't see flatbed utility trailers at all when backing up to hitch up (and thank goodness for my reverse camera) or when backing the empty trailer to manuever. Then again I'm one of those tall Texans at 5'5".
