Pricing and DealersDiscussions that are specific to vehicle pricing, preferred dealer pricing, current incentives, rebates, and experiences.
This is a discussion thread titled "Prices in Calgary", within the Pricing and Dealers forum, part of the Marketplace Forums category.
I don't know about the crewmax, but a co-worker called Country Hills for a price on a limited doublecab 5.7,and the sales manager refused to give him a price other than MSRP without him first supplying a credit card number. My co-worker lives in Fort McMurray, but he would travel to Calgary if the deal was right. However he certainly wouldn't travel to Calgary without a firm price.
I was told by the dealerships they are not discounting them anymore, BUT I was also told by one of the members here that he could get $2,500 off without even starting to haggle. PM TSK and he should be able to help you.
I live in Brooks, so I bought at Henninger. I can drop my truck to get a oil change a jump on the c-train downtown to the office. I was just curious what people were paying out there. Talk to the guys a country hill and they run a real good buisness just to far out of downtown.
Taylor at Country Hills is your best bet...but with CM availibility at the present time I doubt if even he is going to be able to give you much off....better off waiting a few months unless you need wheels now.
No we won't do a whole lot on a Crewmax (unless your name is Tundrafire99 he pretty much stole his. ) but we'll certainly deal. And we can do better on a Double Cab.
Stubblejumper: If someone phones and asks for a "best price" without any commitment to buy he isn't going to get very far! That goes for pretty much any car at any dealership.
taylor
I just got my first chance today to take a tundra for a good drive. Excellent truck.
Part of my job is to tender / spec out trucks for our work (PEI Agriculture). I would love to see Toyota bidding on these tenders, but they seldom do. Does Toyota offer fleet incentives like the domestics do? How are things done in the West?

I have purchased many new vehicles over the years including a 2007 Tundra.I have never been asked to provide a credit card number before being provided with a quote for the best price. If I had been asked,I would have simply gone elsewhere. The dealer is in business to serve his customers, not the other way around.

I agree with stubbleumper dealership are getting quite arrogant these days. I was in a lot of dealerships over the past months with all the new trucks coming and even to get a testdrive they almost wanted a commitment to buy or they were choke like it was a waste of their busy day drinking coffee and cutting down their competition. Sorry for being so hard on salesman but it was really quite frustrating (henninger and country hills aside had great experiences there) I bought my first car (brand new ford mustang) over the phone never had one problem!
I also agree with Stubblejumper. Although Toyota has a great truck, the dealers have to start giving some better customer sales service. I wouldn't give my credit card number to get a price. If gas prices keep moving up, the truck manufacturers will be giving away the big trucks.....

Taylor,
Have you heard when the 2008 model will be released? I read on another thread that it may not be until January. Please say it isn't so........The snowmobiling season starts in late December so that is my deadline...

My experience is quite different with my dealer here in Nova Scotia. He offered me a fair price via email and he let me also drive a 2007 Tundra DC over the next weekend so I can see for myself if the space will be enough for me or if I have to get the CrewMax, although he knows that I won't buy this truck afterwards. I told him that I want to place an order instead.

We do a lot of business over the phone and the web but we're also very proud of our facility and prefer to do business in person when possible. I'll wager that many of the new vehicles you've bought have been in person.
It sounds like your friend may have been mis-handled... I certainly wouldn't expect someone to drive down from Macmurray to *maybe* get a better deal.
The classic salesman line is "if I could would you" As in, "if I could get you a price that's better than what your dealer in Fort Mac is offering, would you be willing to make a commitment and make the trip down here to buy the truck?" Quid Pro Quo right? So how does the salesman know the customer is serious, and isn't just going to hang up, call the next dealer and say "here is the number you have to beat by one dollar to earn my business...." ? He asks for a credit card number.
Just trying to give you a view from the other side. I have a different perspective than some other managers when it comes to "out of town" deals. I feel that if I am bringing in a customer from another market, it's ok if I make only a small profit because it is "conquest" business that I would not have had a chance to earn otherwise. The opposing viewpoint (and I often lock horns with other managers over this) is that "Toyota is only going to give us 300 of these trucks this year and we've already sold 150. Why should I sell them at huge discounts when I can make a decent profit on every single one?" And in a way we are both right... we have a limited supply, there is a high demand... it isn't arrogance, just smart business.
It's a fine line!
If your friend is still looking have him give me a call.
