This is a discussion thread titled "deal and deposit question", within the Pricing and Dealers forum, part of the Marketplace Forums category.
Well, the rep finally replied to me and made an excellent deal (even threw in free all-weather floormats) and I will also be able to apply any rebates that may be available when my order is delivered. The $500 deposit is refundable and was put on credit card. My rep told me that the deposit is refundable because they can understand that in 4-6 months lots of things can happen. People could have to move away, lose their job, have kids, divorce, etc. He also said, "what do I care, I will have a great truck that is hard to find and easy to sell." Turns out the issue is that I want SR5 for cloth interior, but have selected nav and moonroof and Toyota is not making this configuration at the factory (only with Ltd), hence the special order. Several dealers have told me that since 2007 Tundra was released in February and CM in April they dont expect 2008's this year. A couple of managers said probably not until around Q2 2008. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that there will be at least a $1500 rebate like the current one. While I am waiting on delivery I can save money to buy TRD exhaust, leveling kit, rims/tires, line-x; for installation when my truck arrives.... THanks for all of the feedback!

Awesome. Congrats!!! Enjoy it when it arrives. And...post pics as soon as you can. It's always fun to see what people have in their driveways.
How Could You Asked A Dealer To Build The Truck That You Want, And Not Get Any Commentment Out Of Yourself. There Spending The Time And Money To Get A Truck For You. Hell Ya There Should Be A Deposit. Because Nobody Is Good On There Word Anymore. You Haven't Even Bought This Truck Yet And Your Already Talking About Backing Out!!! Maybe You Should Ask Yourself If You Really Want A New Truck... I Ordered My Truck And Can't Wait For It To Get Here. I Was Happy To Give A Deposit.
First off the dealer doesn't build a vehicle they get a vehicle that is waiting to be produced by toyota and they lay claim to it. They are not spending time and money because that is there job. They will sell your ordered vehicle and yes make a profit. I have yet to go to a dealership and meet a 100% straight shooter it's all B.S. If the consumer finds the truck he/she wants on another lot, gets a better deal, then he/she should back out. Do you think toyota dealerships are going to be nice guys and give you vehicles under invoice everytime you walk in the door. No! they want to see how educated you are then go about a way of ripping you off. Never fall in love with something your buying be able to walkout.
Someday you'll be happy when that new truck that you waited 6months for comes in with problems and they got your money and you got a damaged truck.

Curious to your opinion on something, if it is ok to walk away from a deal because you found a better deal some place else, then would be ok for a dealer to sell your inbound truck to someone else because they offered more money?
I would never do that, but wouldnt it be the same thing? Just curious to what your opinion is

Honestly, I would never be in that situation I do so much homework that I can tell you what dealership has what on every lot in the region. For the tundra I bought I wanted a red 4x4 so most dealers didn't have any so they did a locate. They say they found a vehicle but then you get the I don't know where it's located. (They lie and just won't tell you) but I knew exactly where every vehicle was at that they located. Also when i buy I go to the dealer a have a set price and if they don't give it to me I go somewhere else.
To answer your question: If I were to order a truck and the dealer sold it to someone else I would be pissed but then I would buy the same truck somwhere else not every going to that dealership again. The problem is the dealership probably wouldn't tell you they sold your vehicle, they would call it a delay and locate another truck for you. This happens every day. So if a dealership gave me a better deal after I signed a non-legal contract then I would say hey this is what such and such dealership is offering me beat it or i'm going to buy from them because they want to give me a better deal. If I went to a dealership and got 100% honesty I wouldn't have a problem paying more for a vehicle. For me buying a tundra from the toyota dealership was one of the worst experiences of my life. I wish vehicles were a set price instead of all the hazzle.

I try to make it so neither of us gets pissed. That should always be the goal on both sides.
