Default Thinking of getting an older prius

I drop 12k a year on my tundra in gas, with a total milage of 364,000 on my 01. I was thinking of getting an early model Prius. If I get 25mpg I would be estatic!. Anyways, are there any major issues with older Prius, 80k+. The batteries? On-board computer??? My Tundra hasn't even as so much caused me one problem. I want the Prius for the Carpool, or I would get a camry.Any help would be appreciated. An no way am I trading in my Tundra, it has outlasted my wife, now ex-wife

I have a 2007 Prius. I purchased it mainly for my wife who commutes about 40miles each way to work everyday. We are glad that we went with the Prius. Her car is averaging about 50 miles per gallon. We were considering a camry hybrid. Although we bought the car new, it already had 200 miles on it because we had to get it allocated from another dealership which was about 170 miles away. Anyhow, we have not had any issues with the car. I know that the batteries are supposed to last for a long time. I have a neighbor that has one of the original Prius, the ones that look like toyota echos, with no issues at all. He gets about 35-39 miles per gallon with it. Good luck on your Prius.

If all you want is 25mpg then why go with a hybrid at all? Go with a 4 banger corolla or camry and you should be there. I don't own a hybrid, but I would be a bit skeptical about the batteries as they get past 5 years. No battery technology that I know of lasts forever and replacing the battery pack on one of these cars has to go for a couple grand at least. You want real high mpg? Go with an echo or yaris. Just don't get in an accident with one.

If I were looking for a car for the mileage, I would be looking at one of the scions or maybe the new civic. Since by my calculations you are putting upwards of 70K per year on the vehicle, a brand new car doesn't make much since because you will loose so much value on just the first year depreciation. Something 2-3 years old or something with 15K or less on the clock would be good, give you the longevity without the big hit in value off the lot.

Thanks for the input. I fogot to mention, the other big plus is Carpool. I have thought about going with a four banger, but would love to get a carpool sticker. I commute alot through LA/SF/SD. Any little bit would help.

80K miles on a Prius. Not a smart idea.
How much of the tranferable warranty is intact? At 100K yu really have a money pit on your hands.

Plan on $5200. for a Battery Pack, if out of pocket. The going price.

Heavily marked up because the Nickel gets mined from Canada , then ships around the world to several places to get processed and built. Then returns to the US. It gets handled as Toxic material while in transit.

Research Used hybrids before yu jump into one.
Just buy a Corolla. Yu will get over 30MPG without trying and yu don't even need A "Special" technique with your gas pedal as in a Hybrid.

BTW, I thought that those California HOV single use exempt stickers were GONE, and discontinued!!! Like not given out anymore dude.
Since like 2007!

I live in NY and I know this.

Subject Top Page: ELIGIBLE VEHICLES - SINGLE OCCUPANT CARPOOL LANE USE STICKERS

YU missed the boat! It left a long time ago.

The Carpool Lanes are all backed up incase yu havn't noticed. Theres no more room for yu.
