Default 2005 Prius Meltdown

Today more warning lights that I had ever seen before lit up.
Stopped and checked fluids, all seemed well in that department.
Car has over 103,000 miles and had just had an oil change.
Barely made it to the dealer where I was told nothing will happen until Monday.
Brake lite went on and brakes became iffy.
Car began to slow down, speed up, slow, fast, slow...
Power steering failed as I pulled into dealer.
Service tech looked at warning light in upper left corner of multi-screen and said, "I've never seen that before."

Toyota expects newly purchased HYHI owners to off these around 100K miles. They were not expected to be "cheap to keep" beyond this.

I see a trend and patterns of failure around the 100k mark.
Just follow Toyotas lead and buy a new one again.

Unlike other Non Hybrid cars Toyota offers.

But I would read this first.

I would like to see how many Hummers are still on the road with 300,000 miles.

The average life of a Toyota Hybrid will be well over 100k. Those assumptions in that article are ridiculous.

That's wishful thinking. What is well over 100k? 150K tops?
And it will surely be a money pit for any owner once off warranty.
Great for yu and Toyota. Keep spreading that hype. It behooves yu not to, I understand. Unfortunately TIS is not able to keep up with past and current Prius issues. This only adds insult to injury.

There is no bashing here!
Why approach this as such?

Data is forthcoming. This "far from Green" Technology is 10 years old.
Time to call it like it is. A passing Fad.

Sure, Toyota will get that one customer that may get 300K out of his Prius, Toyota will post it all over their web site to brag about the Prius.
Then Kathyricks will be telling everyone that Prius's will get 300k using Toyota products and service.
Toyota may even buy back the 300k Prius and offer a replacement Prius to this one owner. If this hasn't happened already.

There are many numerous articles to back up the one I have shown.
Trade publications and the like.

Working for NYC, I am very, very familiar with these 1st and 2nd gen Priuses. And, I have firsthand exposure to all issues and Dealer's attempts at repairing these hybrids. Priuses downed for weeks on end.

It is a pretty ugly picture of this product.

Prospective buyers have heard all the hype.
Now it is time they have ALL the information to make a smarter, educated decision regarding what it means to own a Hybrid vehicle in real terms.

Athough, I am not a fan of the Vehicle, The H2 and H3 are far superoir in technical terms compared to the Prius. It is not even a fair comparison.

All Hummers are in fact stiil on the road and running with very high reliablity. They are just not fashionable as of late with Fuel prices. But they are cheaper to keep and have strong resale. More so than a similar mileage Prius. Again both vehicles of these are apples and oranges apart.

Hint: the Atkinson type Prius engine alone has issues not even addressed by TIS. Start and stop cycling alone is a great problem for this Prius engine. It takes alot of abuse. 100k+/- EOL cycle is realistic and is becoming fact...forget about the electrics. It costs too much to maintain after it's off warranty. Repairs exceed the value at 100K. Fuel efficiency gets worse with mileage. NiCad Packs costing $5200 average.
If Toyota was smart they would offer battery replacement at $500 ea. Yeah,in another world and dimension.

You are correct. There will be no bashing here. You have your opinion and I have mine. I am not getting into an argument. I don't have the time on my hands to find all of the articles about either vehicle. All I have is master Toyota and ASE certs and tons of on hand experience.

I also have first hand experience with the prius, knowing at least a half dozen owners with vehicles over 100k. I can say, there is very little in terms of issues i have seen between not only them, but the dozens of other Prius owners i have spoken with. I would check with Prius owner groups, not just one or 2 people who have had bad luck.

The article was clearly written by an Eco-Facist, just 'read' between the lines and the 'hype' for the hummer and chevy Aveo...both losers in the realm of current technology.
I'd venture to say that the U had a grant from GM and was 'proving it's worth,' by posting this article.
