Yep. Keep your truck. I'll wave as I go by you at the gas pump.

Around here, we call those the "Pious" because most of the owners bought them because they think they are saving the planet. Actually, the batteries reportedly cause a lot of pollution where they are manufactured ... But I digress.

If you actually pencil out total ownership costs, not just gas mileage, you seldom actually save money overall by buying a hybird car. It is almost always cheaper to buy a conventional car with great mileage, such as the Corolla or Yaris or a Scion, as others have mentioned here.

Plus, there are some high maintenance costs down the road with the Pious, and apparently some major headaches for some owners as well. You might read through some of these nightmares experienced by Pious owners before plunking down your hard-earned cash on one. There are pages and pages of very serious and costly problems owners have had:

Me I have a 08 tundra dblcb for hurricane evacuation, week ends, my wife uses truck during week to pick up grocery's & local errands. Have a 4banger 03 frontier for the god awful pot hole infested demolition derby commute I make in the week. Can the prius handle such a commute? Used a dodge ram for the commute the last 11 years & have some concerns if the frontier's gona hang together.

The Prius just won't fit everyone's driving needs. My '08 with a 48MPG average for 30K miles does just what I wanted when I got it. I have folks in the family that probably couldn't average 20MPG in the Prius. As for the big bad truckers that don't like anything about the Prius, tough..

back when gas got to $4 here on the east coast, I put $600 a month in my old ram, so I bought a Matrix and it was cheaper than paying for gas and when things turned around, I traded em both in.
go for a Matrix and save $$$ it gets almost the same mileage and the cost is about half.
My $0.02

they are getting uglier with age IMO....but i agree. if u do alot of city driving its pretty good and hard to beat. our city bought a bunch of them and alot of our geographic detectives use them running around in town and it saves alot of fuel.

personally? id rather drive a V8 truck anyday and just feed it fuel. just like the boat, fill it with gas and burn it all. hahahahah i even saw an article on a hybrid boat..haha talk about going way to far...ridiculous. if u need a commuter, a nice bike or a small econobox car with a real motor and only one battery-to start it- works great for alot cheaper.
