Default Prius Keys

I can use help from someone with superior knowledge. My 2005 Prius has only one key -- the master, silver logo key -- and I want a backup that we either lost or never received from the dealer. Should I buy this on ebay to avoid the heart-attack-inducing cost of a replacement from Toyota, and what about reprogramming the ebay item so that it can work? Is this all wishful thinking, and I should go directly to the dealer with checkbook in hand? Help!!

Your lucky , you have the master key. I dont know anything about what your trying to buy on e-bay, But once you get another key. The dealer will have to cut it to fit your car (opens door only), then they will have to program the immobilzer portion of the key and then the remote door lock part of the key. You have the SMART KEY.

Red face Re: Prius Keys

Hi, I live just outside Warrenton got a new 06 prius and added a extra key fob off ebay but same deal I can't figure out the programing. Anyone ever find you an answer? Some where short of a dealer there should be a way to reprogram.

I purchased an additional keyfob for the SmartKeys for my '04 Prius and most recently my '07 Camry. Programming requires the use of an electronic diagnostic/service device available at the dealership. I know my dealer had to upgrade the firmware in his "device" to handle the programming of the '07 Camry's spare keyfob.
I 'negotiated' a deal for the extra key during the vehicle purchase and it still cost me $270 for the FOB and programming and keycutting. I recently did some calling around local dealers to find out the going price for a spare fob and prices ranged from $325 to over $500 for the fob, programming and keycutting. Considering the invoice price of the entire SmartKey system is $590 which includes two (2) fobs it seems a bit of a ripoff IMHO.
FWIW.

Hi Everyone, This is my first time on this site. The purpose was to find a tecnique for programming a keyfob for my old '98 Camry Sport. I found a locksmith today who provided me with the correct fob for 20 GBP.

Unfortunately he could not program it for my model but I looked over his shoulder and his book said :- FOR SOME TOYOTA MODELS - Within 40 seconds. Turn ignition on. Turn off and remove key. Open drivers door. Close drivers door. Lock and unlock FIVE times using master door lock. Insert key and turn ignition on. Press and hold for 15 seconds both buttons on new fob.

As I said it didn't work on mine but it will work on some Toyota's, maybe yours. Good Luck.

If anyone has the sequence for my 98 Camry 3L Sport, it would be appreciated!

Your 98 camry should have a RS3000
You have to find the brain box, it should be (see picture) behind the dash on the drivers side.
You have to turn the key ON
Push the button on the side of the brain box
while holding button on brain box, press remote button until it chirps.
programming done

The programming he tried was for a RS3200, later year models staring in 2000 I think.
