Default Oil Change/Tire Rotation Question

I picked up my 2006 Prius in December. I noticed that the sticker the dealer put in the window says that the oil should be changed at 3,000 miles. Things I've read said there is no deterioation in the oil at ranges between 7-10 thousand miles. I believe my owner's manual says every 5 to 7 thousand miles. I was hoping to change my oil at the same time I get my tires rotated. Is that reasonable? Thanks in advance for anyone who replies.

I believe the Scheduled Maintenance Guide specifies 5,000mi oil changes. 3,000 seems too frequent -- and is perhaps an enticement to become a reqular face at your dealer's service center. You just want to ensure that you're maintenance procedure keep you within warranty compliance.

My '06 is brand new (about 500 miles now.) I'm going to swap out the dino Toyota oil Mobil1 5W-30 this weekend. 2 reasons: 1) Get the initial break-in flecks out of the system, and 2) get the engine started on a diet of fully synthetic oil. Thereafter I'll stick w/ the recommended 5,000 change interval and rotate the tires with each oil change.

Although I haven't on my other vehicles, I'm going to do the Prius oil changes myself. The filter and drain are easy to get at, and I'll know the correct amount of oil is getting added each time.
