    Default Window tinting

My wife just got her new 06 Prius with the Nav.system. We've had it about a week and she really likes it. I was just curious if anybody has had their windows tinted and will it affect the Nav.sys. signal or does the darkness of the tint make a difference. I would like to get the rear at least a little darker then the rear passenger sides. The vehicle has no tint now and would like to get done before summer sets in, these Louisiana summers can really get hot!

    Thanks,

Make sure the tint is non- metallic or else it will interfere with the NAV system.

At least for the '05 Sequoia w/ factory nav, it has the same restriction as previous post. The manual lists the antennas as being in both rear side windows so they give the caution of tint w/ metal in it.

I've been very pleased with the factory tint. In my previous 4Runner we replaced all the tint because I didn't think it worked at all. Not so with this Sequoia.

Just curious has anyone had their Prius tinted. My wife just got a 06 with the Nav. sys. and was wondering if this would affect anything. I'm thinking the antenna for the Nav. is the back hatch so would metallic or non-metallic make a difference.

    Thanks,

You can tint them any shade.
Just make sure it is NON METTALIC TINT
The nav antenna is in the center of the dash in the front

go to www.tintcenter.com and hit the links. Find the closest Huper Optik dealer/installer. They have a 35% Ceramic tint that blocks out 70% of the heat. The dyed versions of 5% limo tint are only in the 40% range. A little more $$ but if heat control is the goal it's definitely worth it. Even their 50% tint (very light shade) blocks almost 60% heat!!

Hey Mustang, if the antenna for the Nav. is in the front, the metallic on the sides would still affect it? Several tint shops have told me the metallic is a better tint and would hold up longer but if it disrupts the signal then I'll need to look at the regular tint. Thanks for the info.

Yes the metallic would still affect it, it pulls signals from all over the vehicle.

    MFD?

I was wondering what the best non-metallic tint is for a car. I just got my 2006 Prius w/pkg8 (Magnetic Gray) and I think it's the best car I have purchased . I know that the dealer offers window tinting but I wonder what the best tinting is. Some people tell me that even the best tinting lasts only about 10 years and the tinting on the rear window will start bubbling after 2-3 years. Is this true?
