Default XM installation costs on 06 Prius

Can anyone out there tell me what it should cost to install the Toyota XM package at the dealer level? My local dealer wants $340.00 plus the $330.00 in parts. The Maxima I installed XM in cost a total of $100.00 for the receiver and installation. Is this dealer goughing me?

If you're getting an integrated unit (plug and play into existing wiring, works with steering wheel and dash controls and displays on the MFD) $350 installed seems to be the going price. Coastal Tech sells an integrated XM kit or $299 with installation parts and instructions; $50 extra if you drive there (NE Florida) for installation. Just watch their delivery commitment; I hear they're very slow.

There's a issue you should be aware of. Aftermarket kits available today seem to limit the display to 10 characters. There's a Factory kit available now, or very soon, with full character display (30 characters, I think). PriusChat members report the Toyota XM or Sirius box costs $150, installlation kit costs $100 and installation price is dealer determined.

Research the dealer installed Toyota/Prius accessory in your area. The Toyota/non-Prius kits will work, but check for the 10 character limit. It sounds like you can get the dealer installed "official" and factory guaranteed kit for $350 that will have "full" display, which is not available elsewhere today.

I am not a dealer. Good luck; please post your results.

The $350.00 is in addition to the cost of the electronics and mounting kit for a total of over $700.00 from the dealer. Based on what you are saying, I am being completely taken advantage of by a less-than-scrupulous dealer. The parts are the genuine Toyota parts.

No, no!

That's $350 installed by dealer with genuine Prius XM (30 character display), when it's available, or $350 aftermarket installed with 10 character display. Most 06 owners are waiting for the genuine dealer installed Prius (not Solara) XM radio.

My dealer quoted (today) $199 for radio, $100 for mounting kit, and $179 to install... 06 Prius with Toyota radio...

I have been talking about genuine Toyota parts only. Not aftermarket. I'm still not sure if a total of $700.00 for parts and installation is going rate or outrageously overpriced. Anyone? Anyone?

The current edition of the Prius eBrochure from toyota.com shows the price of the factory XM Radio at $449.00. Of course, it also says the radio will be available in April 2006.
