Unhappy Lost smart key warning!

Last week I lost the smart key to my Prius. The valet key was still on my keyring but the smart key was gone. While at my dealer to pick up my new smartkey (about $200 plus $25 for flashing ) I found a Leather remote tote for $6.95 with steel grommets and a steel keyring attachment.(heavy duty) This is cheap insurance against losing a $225 smart key! That little ring on the end of your smart key is attached to a removable key , not to the case.

Was that a Toyota branded item? My dealer has no such item but it sounds like a teriffic thing to have. Is there a manufacturer name and part number you could share?
Tnx,

Just in case anyone is curious.

Once a SMART KEY is programmed to a vehicle (A), it CAN NOT be programed to another vehicle(B).

Are you 100% sure about that? I have read several different places that this is not the case and that you can reprogram keys to different vehicles.

--edited on 5/21 to add:

In fact, I have confirmed this with my local dealer. You can use a key that has been programmed to another vehicle. However, you will have to have a new key blank cut to be able to use the emergency key to enter your vehicle in the event that the battery in your SKS fob is dead.

M factory rep says it can not be done.
I programmed a BRAND NEW KEY to a prius so the customer could have 3 masters, and something happend in the car deal, so he ended up not getting the key and some other stuff.
We needed a Master for another customer who lost ther keys and the previous key I had progrmmed to the other vehicle WOULD NOT program to the 2nd Prius, Thats when I called TAS (Toyota support and my factory rep)they both said the same thing. ONCE PROGRAMMED to vehicle "A", it can no be programmed to vehicle "B". I am talking about the "SMART KEY" only vehicle.
I'll experiment on my parents prius, next oil change, and see if I can program their key to another prius.

I have confirmed that a smart key can be coded to another car by three area (NE Ohio) dealers. All of them indicated that any smart key would work, but that I would need to have another physical key cut, which only makes sense. There is no central database which tells the car which key goes with which car. The only thing the programming does is tell the car to recognize the electronic signature of the smart key.

I disagree, but it really doesnt matter what I think.
Have a good week

p.s. The guys over at PRIUS chat ran into the same thing.

2007 Prius Smart Key Programming? - PriusChat

Sorry but your dealers are mistaken.
It cannot be done with already used SMART KEYS.

Why have anything else attached to the Smart Key? Keep it in your pocket and the probably of losing it will be much, much lower! After all, you don't really need to have it in your hands most of the time.

Despite the topic here, Some here are not "smart enough to hold on to a "Smart Key."

Joke: How many Prius owners does it take to start One Prius with a smart Key??

I finally found it in writing TSB EL008-04
Registration procedure STEP 1

1. Make sure that the key to be registered has a silver Toyota logo and has never been registered to another vehicle.
