Default 04 prius keypad entry

Hello all!
My 2004 prius will be used as a fleet vehicle with multiple drivers needing access. A single ignition key fob will be in a lockbox in the car but drivers will need entry to access it. I'm thinking of installing an aftermarket keypad entry system. I think the door locks would be easy to activate but what about disarming the alarm? Any advice?

Also: I need another entry transmitter. Toyota says to always use a new one, but they are available on e-bay for $60 or so used. Can my vehicle be programed to accept a used one? Are the little keys available separatly?
Thanks!

Default Re: 04 prius keypad entry

mduryee,

Try this:

1. Home Depot will make full size keys from the SmartKey "mini" key for around $1.50 each; make as many as you need for your multiple drivers.
2. At the end of use, keep the SmartKey in the car after you power down; lock the Prius from the driver's door outside manual lock with the Home Depot key.
3. For the next use, unlock the Prius at the driver's door with the Home Depot key, start as usual since the SmartKey was left in the Prius, and go.

If you keep the SmartKey in the glove box and never tell anyone about it and always use the Home Depot keys for entry and exit, your multiple drivers will never have to know the SmartKey exists.
