Default Forum Search Question

I've been a member here on TS for a good, long while now. I've noticed lots posts being answered by "did you do a search for that", and various less-friendly variations of that same phrase.

Is there a way to do an "AND" search on this site? I've tried every combination I can think of, but to no avail! For example: I want to find posts related to "2004 Doublecab Headers". But, instead of finding posts with either that exact phrase or all three of those keywords, I get back a BILLION posts that contain either 2004 or Doublecab or Headers! Most decidedly not what I'm looking for here!

I've tried the advanced search page, using "+" between the search keys, "and" between the search keys, etc. Nothing.

Any ideas?

And please, don't tell me that I could have found it by doing a search on "Search"!

Cheers.

MrBeanley, have you tried the Advanced Search?

That should lean out the search fodder. Also, you can choose which forums you want to search in using the adv search.

I sure did. From my original post: "I've tried the advanced search page, using "+" between the search keys, "and" between the search keys, etc. Nothing."

Oh man, you certainly did. Sorry I missed that.

Ok, I've tried it again and can't get the same results as you. I just searched all forums for 2004 doublecab headers and only got 4 threads in the results. No commas, ands, ors, or buts, just the three words. Ironically, the first thread in the results was this one.

Last year, JustBeNme had a nice tutorial on advanced searching. But I cannot find it.

Default Re: Forum Search Question

Mr B,

Sometimes I give up on vbulletin search for stuff like this and use google which allows more boolean operators.

You can search a forum by using the 'site:' feature. Not sure if I have the operators right, but you can adjust them using their cheat sheet

Example of what you'd paste into the google search
2004+Doublecab+Headers site:www.tundrasolutions.com/forums/

It only works on forum areas that are visible to unregistered / unlogged members where google crawlers can catalog and isn't real-time (only as current as last time forum was crawled), but has found some stuff I could never hunt down using Vbulletin alone.
