Go with the RAV4. The CRV is nice but it is underpowered and does not get that great of gas mileage for it size. With the RAV4 you can opt for the V6 and get decent mileage.
To me, and on paper, the RAV is a SERIOUS standout in terms of both power and mpg. Nothing in its class comes anywhere close to offering the amount of horsepower the V6 offers, and nothing anywhere comes close to the vehicle's size and power in terms of the MPG it offers. The Rav's V6 outclasses most 4 cylinder mpg wise. Toyota's 3.5 liter V6 is really a gem and still has some more potential.

I have to agree, go 4 the RAV4. After driving both of them, hands down the RAV4 V6 just out performed the CRV. It was a hard choice because the CRV also has some nice styling, I'd have to say it even has a more "refined" feel, but when we loaded both of the vehicles with 4 adults, the answer was simple - RAV4 V6 Limited!! :-) :-) It rivals a lot of 4 cylindar engines for MPG and will have a lot of sport coupe drivers looking on their side window or rearview mirror saying.... "what the hell? is that an suv?" :-) Toyota did an awesome job with their new Dual VVTI V6. I could go on.... RAV4!!!
I don't think you will be unhappy with the Rav4. It has a good amount of usable space and decent mpg. Also, they come standard with all sorts of traction control and skid control and brake assist safety goodies. The new ones have standard side curtain airbags I believe.
We courted both the RAV4 and CRV but ended up with a Highlander. The RAV4 with the V6 is a world above the CRV. Would have probably bought the RAV4 if not for the spare tire on the back (wife hated it), and attractive HL financing.
Those are two completely different kinds of cars. The MDX is a much larger, much more expensive luxury SUV that probably outhandles the Rav, but probably is slower due to its high weight.

RDX is luxo and RAV4 is not, nuff said! If you are looking into the 30K plus for small SUVs. You might also want to look into the Infiniti EX35 coming out now for 2008.
