4x4 ???

i have a rav4 how do i know that its in 4x4 mode or 4x2 .i know it has i light but i never see it on

I don't have a 4WD light mine's always IN 4WD with the 5-speed manual. You have automatic ?? what year and engine?? - be specific. Also read the owners manual - explains everything. It just amazes me how many folks don't read the manual. "how do I reset the oil change reminder? It sin the manual ( buried but in there) If You miss critical maintenance services and have a related failure - bye bye warranty!
