Default 1998 RAV4 Towing Question

Hello Everybody!

I am new to this Forum and I have a question about my 1998 RAV4 (Auto 4 door) and how do tow. I misplaced my manual and would like to know what are your recommendations for towing?

What gear should I be in?
What is the max speed?

Any info would be helpful.

Thanks..

Your question is too vague. If your going ask a question like this I am assuming that you have never driven a vehicle with a trailer. I would reccomend you find the manual. There are several on ebay. Or you can try you dealer.

What are you towing? How far? How much does it weight? What engne and drive config is your rav4?

Chris

Default Re: 1998 RAV4 Towing Question

I've owned a 98 rav4 for almost 8 years and upon checking my owner's manual I can tell you it's allowed to tow a trailer up to 680kg or 1500lbs with 10 percent of that weight allowed on the tongue. Some of this information should be on a sticker on the driver's door jam. Now I know that Toyota built this fine vehicle for carrying passengers primarily so you will find it very restricted when it comes to towing. Some of the reasons for not being a good tower are; small engine, weak transmission, small brakes for the size of the wheels and short wheel base. A Toyota truck would make a better towing vehicle.
