RAV4General discussion forum for the Toyota RAV4.
This is a discussion thread titled "My Tundra got a cousin", within the RAV4 forum, part of the SUV Forums category.
... Bought the wife a 2006 Rav4. 4wd, I4, Dark blue. Options were mats, 4wd and bigger tires.
I like it, it suits her needs just fine as far as space goes. Price was good. The reclining rear seats are sporty, the lack of a light in the rear is annoying, but minor.
It replaces an aged and annoying Ford Contour. The Contour has been a decent car, but repairs are unnecessarily difficult.
Pix, in case somehow you missed what a 2006 Rav4 looks like...
We have the same vehicle line-up as you. OK, two vehicles is not a "line-up", but a guy can dream right? I have the 2002 Tundra (V6 5-speed 4x4) and the 2006 RAV4 Limited in maroon/red. Both are damn fine vehicles. The 4Runner was always my second dream vehicle, but the 16 mpg and $30,000 plus price killed it. Cheers, Jaderain
Heh, if you add in the classics and the race cars, I do have quite a fleet
95 Lincoln Mark Viii (my daily driver)
98 Ford Contour (wife's ex, just biding its time)
00 Tundra (race team tow vehicle)
06 Rav (wife's driver)
85 RX7 Race car
90 Miata Race Car
66 Tbird (resto mod)
96 Triumph Trophy (toy)
Yeah, I need to get rid of some of this stuff, but my insurance agent loves me!
Wow, nice fleet, I'm envious. What is the breakdown on your RX-7? I've loved the car since I walked into our next door neighbors garage when I was 16 and slobbered over his brand new 1983. I drove a 1978 Datsun 280-Z and a 1976 280-Z 2+2 for a couple of years. Now my dream car is the RX-8. I can not believe that you can get one new for around $26,000! I almost wish it was up around the old one ($35K) because then it would be out of the question. I drove one last year in Seattle, really a brilliant piece of machinery. When we got the RAV we let the 1995 Accord go, I knew that I was going to miss the 5-speed Accord, because it really fulfilled my desire to drive something "sporty", and now sure enough, after every magazine article I read, I can't go out and cruise the Accord anymore! cheers Jaderain
The RX7 is built to pro7 rules, meaning its pretty specific. Spec suspension, spec mods to the fuel system. Basically a stock 12a with no smog equipment/cat. gut the entire interior. Add a cage, racing seat and harnesses and go.
Its got horrible binding rear suspension and you're not fast unless you're sliding the car through corners. As compared to the Miata we recently acquired, its really uncomfortable... but that Rotary is something.
