RAV4General discussion forum for the Toyota RAV4.
This is a discussion thread titled "Where Is The Oil Filter?", within the RAV4 forum, part of the SUV Forums category.
Can anyone tell me the location of the oil filter on a 2007 Rav4 V6 Sport?
Is it necessary to remove the plastic splash protector that covers the bottom of the engine?YES
Hope this helps

Well, I have owned my Rav4 for a while now and have learned a bit about its maintenance.
The oil filter is just a foot or two behind and under the front bumber (passenger side) and is not covered by the plastic splash guard that protects most of the underside of the engine.
The oil filter is easy to reach and the oil drain plug is easy as well. With all the space under the Rav, no ramps are necessary to change oil. The filter holder has its own small drain plug to drain the filter holder before dropping the entire assembly. Nice feature! Less oil spills while changing the oil filter. I had the first oil change done at the dealership and had an opportunity to talk to a great service tech about the care of my Rav.
A special tool is required to remove the oil filter holder that houses the paper oil filter element. Thanks to members of this forum I learned what kind and what size tool to purchase.
MY BEEF IS WITH MY DEALERSHIP MANAGEMENT (stealership). Before I read the information on this forum I asked my dealership if I could purchase the special tool there.
I was told that the dealership does not normally sell tools but the parts department could order one for me AT A COST OF $58!
Well, thanks to the tundrasolutions forum I found a quality tool and, including shipping, the total cost will be $11. Why can't dealerships see the long-term harm they do to themselve with pricing policies like this?
I have had so many problems with dealerships over the years that I decided to buy the vehicle that would be least likely to ever have to go back to the dealership for repairs before or after the warranty expires, the 2007 Toyota Rav4. Love my Rav!

No need to remove lower engine cover on 4cyl. Rav to remove oil filter. Just changed mine and had no problems except getting wrench on filter. Looking for another tool today.
But, put 4.5qts. in and appears to be .5qts. over full. Anybody else had this issue?
