Default 2004 RAV with Toyo Transpath A14 tires?

HI,

A co worker just got an 04 RAV 4 and is wanting to know any info on the Toyo Transpath A14 tires on them.

she experienced a slight hydro plane in them in the rain and would like to purchase new tires soon....

1. ARE THESE A14's any good?

2. If not what tires do you guys recommend

check the thread on the wheel do it with a penny put his head upside down if you can see his head then its time to replace the wheel its best to use the oe tires. or look for the thread wear do this by spinning the wheel 360 or lay the wheel down and look around the tire if there is a spot where thread does not exist then its time to replace the tire. i hop that help

The Toyo Tranpath A14's came on my wife's RAV4 also. When new, they were good in the rain and excellent in snow. Now that they have 43,000 miles, they're at minimum acceptable tread depth, but they hydroplane and slip in wet weather.

I'll be getting a different tire, depending on how long she plans to keep her RAV4. I think you can find a better dry and wet weather tire fairly easily, but the week I drove in the snow, I was shocked at how well it did.

The Yokohama Geolandars H/T-S seem to get good ratings, but my wife is balking at the white lettering on them (is it on BOTH sides of the tire?). We saw another RAV4 at the mall with them and it had black lettering. Check The Tire Rack and Discount Tire Direct for comparison shopping.

Watch your tire pressure - it may be TOO HIGH. The recommendation is 29 psi (200 kiloP) cold in the morning, b4 driving or sunlight hitting one side. If you have 30-33psi in there, the tread will be convex and you will only drive on the center rib and have weird traction, hard ride, wandering, and hydroplane problems. OTOH, if you hit 2" puddle on the highway at 70MPH - nothing is going to help in my 35 years on the road.
