Hi,
i am trying to get to the bottom of an intermittant gearshift problem i have with my 2002 VXE that my local toyota dealer cannot find.
basically its intermitant, i.e. 95% of the time the gearbox functions perfectly. the other 5% of the time its as if the car does not know what gear its sposed to be changing to, this ony happens in the low gear range, and when it does decide to make a change theres a big thud and it actually changes back into the gear its just tried to change from! (this occurs around 3500 rpm range)
I left the car with my mechanic after it came up with a P0758 error code (this was after the trans fluid had been changed) he had the car for a week and it the fault did not re-occur during their test drives. I left the car with a good Toyaota dealer, who again did not find the fault with 4/5 test drives and found no error reports and therefore could not fix the problem.
i have already posted this problem on a RAV4 forum
RAV4World.com and only 1 guy had a similar problem which was solved by having the transmission control module(TCM) replaced.
i must say i am getting somewhat frustrated with the blessed thing, I have already booked the car back into the toyota garage next week, but theres a high probability they won't find the fault, so unless i insist they change the TCM all i will get is a re-valeted problematic RAV back.
Has anyone had similar experiences, or recommendations?
Thanks
