suspension probs

i have been using my 1997 rav 4 5speed for over 6 years and have had to replace front and rear shock absorbers four times already and wondered if anyone has any recommendations as to what brand of shocks i should use to give a better ride and longer use.
i do not use my car off road.
but the roads in bangkok are very bad
