Lightbulb '94 RAV4 shutdown issue

Hello, I just signed up for this thread. I have been having a problem with my 1994 Japan model RAV 4 for a few weeks now. Sometimes when I try to start the vehicle, the engine will just turn over and this will continue for a few tries before the engine come alive. In addition, there are times when I brake to a stop at a junction or at the stoplight and the engine shuts down or the rev gage drops very low and the engine jumps as if to shutdown. It's getting worse and I have barely missed a few accidents. Any ideas as to what's wrong? Recently serviced, mechanic checked engine but found nothing wrong.

Thanks.
