Seatbelt warning beep disable....

Has anyone figured out how to disable this thing!

Same question. Dealer said they could disable it... then they couldn't, said something about legal implications and might effect the air bags.

It's a Brand new Rav4 (100 kms), love the car, but the buzzer's got to go.

Safely been using my seatbelt since 1965... don't need my car to tell me to do it.

If you use your seatbelt how do you even know it has a reminder buzzer?

Somebody is not being truthful with you. It is a customizable parameter (see attached)

Is this something I can set by myself? For example, a toggle switch?

Also, what book does the instruction come from? Would my dealer have this same instruction?

Your dealer needs to set it with a handheld tester. The information I posted comes from the 2007 RAV4 Repair Manual.

My dealer tried to talk me out of having the beep disabled, but I insisted and offered to sign the work order next to the line item for this action, showing that I was aware it was being turned off. He agreed to that.

Turns out that this action doesn't actually disable the beep entirely anyway - it just reduces it from a full 90 seconds to about six seconds. So you still get the warning light and a beep, just of a much shorter duration. This is all that's required by law anyway, so there really isn't any liability issue. The document should really say that you're only disabling the extended version of the beep.
