This is a discussion thread titled "Scion 6-disc error messages!!", within the Scion forum, part of the Cars & Vans Forums category.
Hello everyone... I'm new here, I heard this was a great site with mature members who don't act like morons ... i'm sure you know what i mean.
I'm wondering if anyone out there can give a fellow Scion enthusiast a little help. I'm hoping some may have encountered the same problems i have...and if you haven't, i'm hoping you never do.
I purchased a 2004 xb Rs (hot lava) off of a teenager who, fortunately for me, could no longer afford the payments... any who, I'm having problems with the 6-disc player. it would often times show up with an error message 'error 3' or 'error 4', which would disable all cd playback, and only enable the am/fm radio... normally, i would turn the car off, turn it back on, and all would be fine... but now that quick fix doesn't work. when it happened before Del toyota replaced the whole cd changer and installed a new one... but mentioned it may happen again because of the ground-lighting installed by the previous owner. because this stupid 'undercarriage ground-lighting kit thingy' was installed by someone other than Del Toyota, they said they couldn't remove it... I'm just looking for a quick way to reset the radio, get the cd's out, and just replace the head unit with something else... if anyone knows ow to remove a ground lighting kit, great,... but right now, my only question is, HOW DO YOU GET THE CD PLAYER OUT OF THE DASH!?!? I've looked everywhere, there are no scion chilton manuals or anything... can anyone please help me out here? i swear you'll be my best friend!
I have had this problem sporadically for months. Yesterday I received the error 4 message and it would not go away and I couldn't get 5 discs out of the changer. I'm trading the car in today so in a panic I stuck my plastic parking pass in the cd slot and pushed a stuck cd into the player. I shut the car off, turned it on and the error message was gone and my cds came out.
but right now, my only question is, HOW DO YOU GET THE CD PLAYER OUT OF THE DASH!?!? I've looked everywhere, there are no scion chilton manuals or anything... can anyone please help me out here? i swear you'll be my best friend!

First, pull the knobs off the HVAC controls. These three knobs on the dash just pull off. There are no screws to break so just give them a little tug. Next, you'll see two small phillips head screws. Remove them. Once that is out, its just clips that is holding the entire center part of the dash. I find it easiest to pull from the AC vents. The thing will pop right out.
Unplug the wiring harness from the HVAC controls and set it aside. Now, you'll see a steel bracket that is holding the radio/CD player. Unscrew these and the unit will lift out. Unplug the three wiring harnesses and the antenna from the back of the radio.
By the way, the fact that your dealer will not remove the funky lighting kit doesn't mean it can't be done. It just means they have a policy against messing with anything that Toyota didn't authorize to be installed. More than likely, it will be easy to track down and remove all the offending wires. Just be careful not to disconnect anything that actually should be there in the process.
