This is a discussion thread titled "Washer pump/wiper park", within the Scion forum, part of the Cars & Vans Forums category.
Hmm...well you first need to try and diagnose the problem. I replaced the pump on my "87 Corolla FX16 GTS, and it was located up front inside the front passenger side wheel well (which had to be removed), then you just pull the old pump out and slide the new one in, really simple. BUT that's just my car...I assume others are very similer. What happes when you push the button to spray the fluid? The reason I knew it was the pump was because when I pressed the switch, no whining noise could be heard that is associated with the pump. If you cant hear a noise when you push the button, its probably the pump. If you can, check all hoses and tubes. I would suggest checking the level of fluid, but wouldnt want to impune your intelligence . But checking the fuse wouldnt hurt. Most of the time however, the wipers and washer are all under one fuse. Check out the manual for reference.
What do you mean by the wipers wont park? Explain that problem in detail...well see what we can do. good luck!

I cant beleive toyota decided to name their awesome midsize truck the Tacoma. i live in tacoma. its pretty rough around the edges to say the least.
anyways, i checked all fuses for anything close to wipers and they were all fine.
there is NO noise when i try and squirt, back doesnt work either
what i mean about parking, you know when your wipers go back and forth, the farthest over of the swing is the stopping point, then when you turn the car off, the wipers pull down a couple inches more.
i had it on my 88 legend and it had a switch to keep them from parking in the winter. ive seen other pics of the scion but mine are way higher.
There is a wiper fuse. It is located inside the vehicle, drivers side lower dash. It is a 20 amp fuse.
The park mechanism is located inside the wiper motor, but gets its signal from the switch. Your going to have to diagnose both those items.
The wiper fuse sounds good, because you said the wipers work.
I would imagine you have a bad washer pump, from the lack of sounds, but a bad switch that isnt sending a ground signal to the washer motor could be the cause also.
I would get a DVOM and start investigating all the powers and grounds in that circuit.
The wipers wont park and the washer is inop... sounds like a bad switch to me.

OK, now I know what parking is, but I feel silly for pretty much never hearing of it before. The wipers on my "87 Corolla don't park...and I've seen alot of other cars, that to my knowledge, don't park the wipers. Are parking wipers more common now or something?
Vintage42, what do you mean 2 pumps? One for the front and back glass? On my car there's only one pump, and a valve that controlls the flow from that pump to the front and back. Now, if there are two pumps, and they are controlled seperately on their own, I highly doubt they're both faulty, and therfore the possibility of a bad switch is higher. But just remember, start with the simplest measures--checking wires, connections, etc, before diggin deep. Keep us updated....

xB wipers dont park, that is something high end cars do. When you turn off the switch, where they stop down at the bottom of the windshield, is where they stop. If you turn off the car while theyre still up, they will stay there.

ALL TOYOTA WIPERS PARK, when turning the wiper switch to off with the engine running, or key ON.
The wipers stay where there are at on the windshield, when you turn the engine OFF with the wiper switch ON. If you then turn the wiper switch OFF, and the key ON, they will then park.

He's not referring to the wipers returning to home position, he's referring to the wipers dropping down to the cowl when you turn off the engine. Like older american cars did.

AHHHHH. I get it, you mean when you have to actually manually pull the wipers down into SNOW POSITION.
Only the AVALON HAS THIS in the US. There are NO TOYOTA vehicle that do it Automatically.
Which is to bad, It snowed last night here in Las Vegas, I sure could have used that feature this morning in my Tundra .
