Hi everyone!
I currently own a 2001 Tundra and love it dearly, but gas mileage is horrible. I know I'm probably not helping matters with 22 inch rims, but the 16 mpg I was getting before them wasn't cutting it either (by the way, please check out my gallery and tell me what you think!) A friend and I do landscaping on our days off, but business has slowed and my partner drives a Titan now, so I really don't have much need for a truck. I do love the convenience of having a truck, but I'm not sure if it's worth 50 to 65 dollars a week in gas. Anyway, I've test driven a 2007 Scion tC and, sorry to say, but I think I may have found a new love! I know this is apples and oranges, but what do you guys think? Should I soldier on with the Tundra or join the tC fanclub?

Yes I would sell it and Get a new 2007 scion tc But my brothers have them one is a manual and one is an automatic But personally I like the stick better. Overall for the Money spend on the Tc offer's high quality and cool features vs the Boring cheap Eco Box other 2 door coupes...

One of my friends has a tC and i've driven in it very many times. The rear seat is actually exceptionally roomy for a two door - it def will comfortably seat 4. The sound system is fairly high quality, and there is tons of cargo room.
Acceleration is smooth and responsive, handling is capable, braking pretty good. MPG isn't the best in its class, though.

I was in the same boat 9 months ago. My job required me to travel to both work sites and I will end up putting 170 miles RT a day for 2 weeks out of the month.
Gas was killing me using my 00 tundra.
So we decided to keep the truck which is paid for as we tow a trailer but get a new or used car.
We look at used cars, honda or toyota, etc. Price was hovering around 9K to 13K for a 2000-2004 model.
So Mr. bright idea me said, lets looks at the new Yaris. They advertise it at around 11,999 for the hatchback. I want that!
Went to 5 toyota dealership trying to find one, all 5 only have the sedan.
Price of base model started $13,999.
Test drove one. Decent performance. Kinda loud when push.
Sat with saleperson. started negoiating with options and trim level upgrade.
Looking at the bill, I said, WOW, where hovering around $15,400 plus. that is without a sunroof and alloy wheels.
So I instructed all 5 dealership to call me when a Yaris hatchback comes in and I really want that model.
4 weeks later, Vallejo dealer called and said they have one to look at. Drove there at 7PM and look at it.
My wife just about had a COW and said, YOUR NOT DRIVING THAT THING WITHOUT BUYING US A 5 MILLION LIFE INSURANCE POLICY FIRST.
I did all the dance and song at the dealership( IT was kinda amusing at that time as the saleperson was laughing and rolling at us )to get her to agree,The answer was a BIG
HELL NO!!!!
You guys know where I am going with this right???
So I thought it over for a 3 days, decide to check Scion dealer.
Look around folsom dealer Sacramento during lunch time and one caught my eye. Black Scion TC. Just came off the boat. No price tag.
Sale person came out and I ask how much. He replied after looking at his manifest. > $16800.00
I said WTF!!!!
Long story short, I thought of long term use, and analysis the situation.
Do I drive a fuel miser car with so so performance for 12 years or should I pay $1,500.00 more to have a wicked smile on my face everytime I drive TC for the next 12 years.
4 days later, a white 2006 Scion TC with Side airbag sitting on my driveway.
Bad part, my wife drives it more than I do and she hates small cars!
I've put 40k miles on my 05 in less than 2 years. It's my daily driver partner to my Supra. I love it. A 10 foot surfboard will fit - real world that means 2x4x8's. Back seats recline, the temp knob is aluminum, both windows one touch up and down - the little things make this car a best buy in it's class.
It's fun to drive and well put together. Funny thing, I just drove a 07 DC 5.7 Tundra to replace it. I want something with 4 doors for me and the g/f and the dog to do a little more in. With the Supra, 2 cars with 2 doors just isn't working anymore. But for what you get with the tC, you can't go wrong.
If you want to spend a touch more, the new Mazdaspeed3 is a rocket. Even the Speed 6 wouldn't be a bad daily driver.
I love my TC had it since feb 05. The only issues I have are the rattles. But I smile everytime I drive the car. I only average 22 - 24 mpg though with my new tires. It is a fun car and it is very practical. I was able to fit a brand new weber gensis silver b gas grill in the back. It was in 2 main pieces but it fit.
Well guys, I finally did it! Check out my gallery to see my new baby! I got it in Black Cherry with the automatic (read about some problems with the clutch on another forum). It handles great and feels pretty quick for a four, despite being an automatic. I'm in love with the panorama sunroof, and there's enough room in the backseat for me, and I'm 6'3" (yes, I actually tried the backseat, even though I'll probably never sit there again!). All you tC guys out there have to tell me what mod I should make first, aside from the supercharger!
P.S. My 22"s from the Tundra are for sale. They're on Nitto tires with about 80-85 percent tread left except for one, which is brand new. If you're in the Houston area PM me. By the way, thanks to everyone for the advice!

Like you said, apples to oranges. It sems to me like you've made up your mind that you don't need a truck, so the real question is what will best suit your new needs. The tC falls in to the "compact" club (even though it is built on a sedan chassis), so you should look at everything in the class. In my opinion there are better buys out there than the tC, but it all depends on what's important to you. If it's mpg, get a Prius, Civic, or diesel, if it's sportiness, get a Mazda3 or GTi...if it's a mix then test drive some cars. Hell, half the fun in getting a new car is all the test drives you get to go on...
Mazda is not a LT quality automotive manufacturer - come to think of it neither is VW. They may be fun to drive at first but then just wait for major engine(mazda) or electrical and suspension (VW) issues to crop up.
