I have a factory rear camera on my Sequoia and my Honda. It is really useful for backing up to a trailer.

on my stock 08 system it doesnt 'beep' till your about 12" away, then at about 6-7" it gets faster then at about 4" it hum's.

I have been trying it out with objects and moving them close to the bumper to see how close you can get or even hit without the consistant hum. Seems 4" is the closest before its a solid notification.

At anything over like 18" I would try to adjust it (if poss?) to a little less sensitive? Just my .02. but looks stock, good job on the bumper mountings.

I would say my system beeps at a similar distance to my Honda factory system.

I might want mine a little less sensitive but I would have to look into if there is some internal adjustment.

12 inches is really close. On the other hand, that is one way to minimize the annoyance of the entire system. So maybe Toyota has decided it is best. Can you measure the distances and post them?

Added two more things.. A Home-Link transmitter auto-dimming rear-view mirror and a Python remote-starter / two-way alarm.

The Mirror was $220 delivered and then Circuit City put it in the same time as my starter for $40 extra.

I range-tested the starter:

First I walked to the most true line of sight I could get -- 700 yards or so according to the laser rangefinder. Then I walked further and further. I lost line of sight but wrote down street intersections. It seemed like I walked forever so remind me not to walk that far again in 36 degree temps. I got 2054 yards or 1.17 miles out of it, according to google-earth. So I am stunned -- I was able to verify a mile. I had no doubt that true line of sight without a bunch of houses in the way would have gone further.

My winch. It is just in the trailer hitch so I can remove it in seconds.

It is just a winch and a mount. You can put any winch into that mount. I cannot really use it until a cable I ordered comes. I am going to try to pull some tree sections up a hill beside my house.

There is a side-effect of my remote-starter and my Toyota. The Toyota leaves the headlights on if you shut off the engine and sit in the car. So if you turn on the car with the remote starter, and then decide to shut it off from the remote starter -- the lights never turn off as the car thinks someone is inside.

I think the fix is to reprogram the car. The owner's manual has two custom settings that seem relevant. One is how many seconds from when you close the door to when the lights go off. Default is 30 seconds but a Toyota dealer can change it to 0. I don't think that will help though as the door is never open and closed. The other setting will make it so that the lights are off when the engine is shut off. I assume that will fix it. While I am at it, there is an option to disable the seat-belt buzzer.

The winch was $429 not counting the mount.
