Doesn't need to be. When you fold the second row flat, the center console folds forward and makes the floor "flat"... kinda.

The reason I wanted to remove it is to make a path to the 3rd row. If not, I will have to get a loaded Limited in a 7 passenger config.

So, any idea if it can be removed?

I dropped mine off at the dealer and won't have it back until Monday to look but right off the bat I know there would at least be some wiring you would have to deal with; The middle row seat heater buttons are in the center console.

I'm pretty sure it cannot be removed (at least not easily, as in say, an Armada/QX56). The console has controls for the seat heaters on it. Additionally, i didn't see a release button anywhere when I crawled through the platinum the local dealer had on the lot.

This too is an issue for me as I want to be able to strap two car seats into the captain's chairs and yet have a pass through for the 3rd row. Folks have suggested going with a bench and installing two car seats on the 60% split. I'm not in favor of this from a practical perspective or moral perspective (one child being in the safer center position vs. the other), if I can help it.

Sorry for bringing up this old post but as I get closer to making a deal on an '08 Platinum, I'm doing more and more reading.

Having an extra seat would benefit me a lot, but I prefer the way the Platinum handles much more than the limited so I'm willing to sacrifice that bench seat. Being able to remove the center console would be a great compromise. Too bad it doesn't look possible.

I do have to make a comment about this statement, though:

Since you don't think it's moral to have 1 child in a safer position than another, you would rather put both of them in "unsafe" (outboard) positions?

Anyway, I have 4 kids (soon to be 5) so since they all can't sit in the center, I'm going to have to draw straws to figure which ones to sacrifice first!

j/k

I'll buy the center console from you for my limited that does not have it.
