Default Volant CAI

Just had Volant CAI installed on 5.7L Sequoia...WOW, nice roar and I get better gas mileage. The CAI is sealed to the fender and it uses the powercore filter. Same part used as in 2nd Gen Tundra. Great so far. Now waiting for exhaust. By the way, it's not producing too much noise in the cabin. Great mod to start.

Do you need to reflash the ECU or unground the Battery so the system resets to zero A/F and then adjusts for the new intake? I too would like to see Pics. Thanks

I am curious to know what kind of increase, if any, in fuel economy you get by installing that. I would invest in one if the mpgs took a rise.

I was talking to a dyno guy today and he told me the sequoia and tundra need a scoop on the hood for a CAI to do anything but look good. All he does is dyno cars and trucks all day long. He talked about hot air cool air and circulation with CAI for 20 minutes. I think he knew more than most. He also said the Super charger sounds like a squirl with asthma on the tundra and they could gain 25 more HP with a better designed box or a CAI with a scoop.

I'm curious as to how much the said increase in fuel economy as well. How much did it cost you plus installation?

The first step in the Volant instructions tell you to disconnect the positive battery terminal. So...yes...the battery is disconnected until the unit is installed.

Also....the negative should be disconnected first, then the positive for safety. If you're disconnecting the positive and hit something metal with your wrench......

I purchased one online and received it this week.

Here are my impressions:

Unit seems like it is molded very well. Gasket placement was fairly sloppy which caused some problems installing hardware. The installation of six screws took almost half an hour due to some threading issues. A tap and oil were needed.

The instructions pretty much suck. The black and white photos are awful. In today's digital age, color photos should be provided.

The alignment of the unit with the fender is not perfect and the engine cover placement is questionable after the filter unit is installed. The silicone coupler fitting is too large and binds under the clamps (which also seemed to be different in size from the instructions).

I've been running the Corsa cat back exhaust and I was expecting much more when teamed with the intake. Throttle response seemed a bit slower and dull. The growling back-pressure of the exhaust was removed completely (which sucks too) and the intake and exhaust seem to only growl at full throttle.

The Donaldson dry filter is a nice piece.

Follow up to come.

Follow up 1: Average mileage is coming up. This number is reset when the battery is disconnected. Right now it's at 15.2 with a mix of city & highway. I'll update MPG later.

Follow up 2:

Engine seemed to bog down with Volant and Corsa. Sent Volant back for credit. I went back to stock for now.

Volant did seem to provide 1mpg. My average dropped to 14.2. I'm doing much less highway driving lately and this is a minor factor.
