Default My 2008 Sequoia Impressions

We jsut bought a 2008 SR5 Sequoia for my wife.

We traded my old F-150 for it, and I got the wife's old Sequoia with much less wear and tear than my Ford.

My impressions on the Sequoia have always been good (didn't complain when she wanted to give me hers), but the new one is WAY ahead of the 2006!

Size: This is finally a full sized truck! It's as roomy side to side as my F150 Crew cab, has just as much leg room in the front, and even more leg room in the 2nd row than my F150.

Power is awesome, but would really like to see some king of cylinder management (I know, pie in the sky) for better economy on long hauls.

Fit and finish is superb, like the previous Seqouia.

Radio is nicely integrated into the dash, ergonomics are great.

Moonroof is pleasant, and rear passengers don't get hairstyle changes form it either.

Now, I don't drive it daily, but it really was like driving my F150, and just as nice. Ride is more truckish than the older Sequoia, a little stiffer and less body-roll which isa good thing.

It's harder to manuever with the longer wheel-base and wider stance, but I'm used to backing into parking spots!

That's about it for now, but feel free to ask any questions if you have them!

Congrats on your purchase, and welcome to the forum! I have an 01, but test drove the 08 recently and loved it.

Hmm. The turning radius on the new Sequoia is 4 feet tighter than the previous one and is among the best in its class, so i'm not sure why it'd be harder to maneuver. With IRS it should also be more car like.

Did you get the 4.7 liter V8 or 5.7 liter?

Ergonomics are good for most driving things but poor for the nav/radio. I am not complaining but just wanted to point out the reach is far.

We got the 5.7 liter.

It does have a good turning radius, but you're pivoting a longer wheel base, so swinging the big boat into a tight spot requires a 3-point turn in a parking lot.

As far as the radio goes, I'm 6'1" and have pretty long arms so the radio wasn't an issue for me. But I could see where a NAV system would be a PITA.

Just saw the first one up close today. Unfortunately it was in white and the white whale impression is hard to avoid! Lovely vehicle but too darn big for my needs now, I fear. Time to move down the page to the Highlander forum.

Next generation 4runner will grow to be a 1/8th smaller than the 100 series Land cruiser. That could fit your needs nice. I agree, the 08 Sequioa is a little to big for my taste. I like the 1st gen size much better.

That's very helpful, actually. I hadn't really paid much attention to the other model lines and for some reason had thought of the Highlander as the next size down from the 1 Gen Sequoias. Clearly the 4Runner fill s that slot, even looks a lot like the Seq. But now there's a new 4Runner coming for 09? Heck, I looked at the specs and I like the current one, and that should mean some good deals are coming at the changeover.

Yeah. If you look very closely to the dimensions of the Highlander/4runner you will see that they are pretty much identical in size. The Highlander is actually longer in wheelbase and height. Also, at least in Canada the two SUVs are pretty much priced identical. With the Sequioa getting bigger and the Land Cruiser getting a little longer. The 4runner is in the position of growing a little larger than the current one and a little smaller than the 100 series Land Cruiser. With a new v8 along the way as well. The next generation 4runner/GX will be very nice vehicles.

Only thing I wonder is if it will be coming in 2009 or 2010.
