Default 5.7 Transmission Observation

One thing I've noticed about the 5.7 versus the 4 liter in my old 01 is the noticeable transmission downshift when slowing. I assume this is a normal attribute of the six speed transmission?

yes I also noticed this on my '08 Limited, if you watch the RPM gauge as you slow it seems to down shift about 4 gears. The other thing I noticed is that it starts out in 4th gear from a standstill on flat ground instead of 1st gear.

Most newer Toyota SUV's/Trucks do this. It's called brake assist.

Mine doesn't start out in fourth. That doesn't make any sense. Are you saying you watch the rpms and they only change three times getting up to highway speed in drive (which would be 4th, 5th, then 6th gear) or are you thinking it starts in fourth because when you slap the stick over to the left it says 4?
