Then mount it in the Way oversized center console on one side. That is the only downside so far over what it had stock. 6cd is nice compared to no cd nav or no nav - single cd/dvd.
Robert,

I am fixing to do the same in 2008 Seq SR5. Will order Pionner AVIC D3 and BT Adapter. I want to confirm few things. I plan on using;

Receiver Wire Harness For select Geo, Lexus, Scion, and Toyota models, 1987-up at Crutchfield.com

Scosche TA2073B / TA2073

Is this the right harness and Dash Kit. I did not get the issue of color matching with your Metra Kit. Did you look into this Sochco kit?

How is the sound quality compared to factory unit?

If you have any documents that you can share, please let me know. For a naive like me, it will be a great help.

Thanks

Dont know which harness it was. They gave me the # they recommended.

That kit is black, maybe piano black even (very shinny). But the sequoia radio is not just shinny black. Its a metalic black. Thats why I color matched it. I used what crutchfield sent for free, which was a flat black metra kit. And painted to match.

sound quality compared to the basic 6cd toyota is better, but hard to get just right. the front 6x9's I think Really suck! but havent replaced them yet. over all better then stock, but without replacing the speakers, its only marginal.

I will say I still dont know where the reverse wire is located. You will find (if you search) here a good few write ups that show how to install a stock nav unit in to a new tundra, thats what I used and it was great. All but the reverse wire.

I am getting a few black outs on the sat radio with my antenna mounted where it is next to the nav one under the center speaker grille. Not alot but it does happen. I recommend if you do sat radio to mount that antenna on the roof or hood corner. I will be relocating it. The nav never has a reception issue.

I recommend the CD changer that pioneer has out if you ever listen to CD's. And if you plan on movies (um while driving) their CD/DVD changer then. one is about 170 and the other a few hundred more. Mount it in the center counsol and IP-Bus it right in to the last device (BT or IP module).

Its easy and straight forward.

Red face Re: Anyone do aftermarket Nav and such in a 2008?

Okay. I’ve placed order for following;

1) AVIC D3Y (D3+BT) 650$ after rebate
2) Receiver wire harness 10 $
3) METRA 99-8220 HG 44$
4) Pioneer 6 CD changes 125$

I've read this and several other posts for installation. I have not done too many installations myself but I’ve been encouraged by several posts saying how easy it is. Please clarify few things that may be too simple for others

1) Wire harness will take care of speakers and power for D3 unit. Correct?
2) Connect stock antenna wire to D3
3) Take care of speed wire on K3 plug
4) Connect reverse wire from D3 to the fuse panel at the driver’s side (may have issues here)

I really need help here;

5) What happens to Park/Brake wire (light green)?
6) Is light green wire taken care in the D3 hack (mute-ground wire tap)?
7) use IP Bus wire to connect BT (which one goes where since i've to connect CD changer also?)
8) Connect CD changer to BT or directly to HU?
9) Where you guys mounted the BT module and CD Changer?
10) Where you mounted the microphone and how it was routed?
11) How to power the BT and CD changer. Do they tap into same wire harness that powers the HU?
12) Where can i ground the wires?

My apologies if some questions are dumb. Your help will be appreciated.

Where did you get the changer? thats a great price.

1) Wire harness will take care of speakers and power for D3 unit. Correct?

Correct

2) Connect stock antenna wire to D3

Yes but reception is vasty inferior to stock for some reason. There were two antenna looking wires pluged in to the stock NON Nav unit, one that is the common style and one that is odd and smaller. I only used the common one on the pioneer and wonder if the smaller one needs something also? I dont know.

3) Take care of speed wire on K3 plug

As posted on the stock nav install inst posted here in the tundra section I think.

4) Connect reverse wire from D3 to the fuse panel at the driver’s side (may have issues here)

I think its posted that its behind the Passengers side kick for the Tundra, but that was not the case for the Sequoia. Still not used on my setup, and works great still. But no rev camera on my setup.

I really need help here;

5) What happens to Park/Brake wire (light green)?

Do the posted hack, works great.

6) Is light green wire taken care in the D3 hack (mute-ground wire tap)?

Yes

7) use IP Bus wire to connect BT (which one goes where since i've to connect CD changer also?)

Its like any common "Bus" setup. Either can go anywhere. its just from the headunit to one, then that one to the next, etc...

8) Connect CD changer to BT or directly to HU?

See above. I would do Headunit, to BT that I mounted in the center con, up near the dash, then CD unit to the BT unit. and run the wires down from the HU. Also, while in there I would convert the in-console power outlet to 12V const. that way you can use it for your phone or other to charge when ever.

9) Where you guys mounted the BT module and CD Changer?

See above for BT, then for the CD changer. In the Huge center console on the pass side internal wall facing up. You loose that one side, but keep the center do-hicky and have the drivers side inside there also still open.

10) Where you mounted the microphone and how it was routed?

I did mine on the drivers side A-Pillar. Cliped it just above the grab handle on the plastic cover for the pillar, and ran the wire down inside that panel and then under the dash over to the BT unit. The wife tucks in without having to remove it the plastic panel, and its good for drivers seat conversation reception. Pass and rear seat talking to it is not great. But I did it for the drivers seat usage.

11) How to power the BT and CD changer. Do they tap into same wire harness that powers the HU?

Yes. There are only Consistant 12V and ground.

12) Where can i ground the wires?

Stock ground wire to stock unit, that give the least amount of possible engine/grounding noise.

Default Re: Anyone do aftermarket Nav and such in a 2008?

I connected the wires to recieving harness today. completed D3 Hack and now ready to take apart the dash and install the system. However i want to make sure that i do not drill any unnecessary holes.

1) I hope i can install the BT just by valcor attachment.

2) I am not sure about CD changer. I may have to drill holes in the center console on passenger side wall. Can some body comment or tell me alternate to drilling holes ?

3) Is it okay to connect 3 devices (HU, BT & CD) to same power cable from factory harness? and same for the ground (all grounds connect to same black cable on factory recieving harness). I believe both the yellow and black wires are atleast 16 guage and should be able to handle the current load.

Your help will be appreciated.
