Default Anyone do aftermarket Nav and such in a 2008?

Well we got the SR5 model and told the wife I would just add Nav, ipod, Sirius and bluetooth for about 1000$ less when that time comes. Well its here now. I ordered the Pioneer AVIC-D3x package with every optional add I think.

Anyone else do Any stereo or Nav work yet on thier 08??

Just hoping its all the same as the 07 tundra?? I have the high gloss dash kit on the way also, and hope thats a Exact fit, should be.

mostly hoping to see where other(s) might have located the GPS and Sat radio antenna's? I want to go inside under the dash like stock on the Tundra for the GPS but will the pioneer like that? What about the Sat radio ant? Right next to it on the same bracket?

Also, are the speed sensor connection and reverse wifes the same color and location?

I am going to be doing all the install in about a week and hope to get some confirmation on this stuff, other wise I will just hope....

I have the Z2 which is the same deal as the Z2. I've helped a few Ts members on this install and your seq is no different from a 2007 Crewmax.I have the pdf if you need the wires and all too.

Hear's a few pictures on the first aftermarket install on a 2007 Tundra crewmax with Pioneer Z1..

Erik

Xm is best outside the truck but your gps can be mounted on the interior center speaker on your factory Dash..

Cool thats what I was thinking and hoping for.

Did you use the Metra kit in HG? If so any pictures of the dash with it in there and your DD unit?

I have all the wiring stuff from what all the tundra threads have on them. SO I prolly have everything you would send. Or atleast enough to cover it. If its the same that is .

Wish I knew if the Seq had the wiring there stock for a rear view camera already and didnt have to run it all....

You might be surprised since Toyota had my alarm prewired and I added the mod that makes it work. Your Sr5 Might have that wire for the camera in tack never know till you check and ask questions.

On my friends Crewmax install on his 07 Crewmax like i stated was the very first install on this truck .It was a week old and just came out to the market thus No kit was avail Then.He did receive the Kit from Tundrasoul (Ts site founder) and it look's pretty good.

I love my navi vs factory you can't beleive how much better this is Vs Lame Toyota pos feature wise your coming out ahead with Xm navi traffic sports scores on the icon's and a list of welcome upgrades.

Well ran in to a snag in this. ALL metra kits I have found are defective or have flaws.

all 5 kits from my local ebay source as well as others I have found further away, all have milky run like markings on the high gloss faces. All of them. What Poor QC, thats for sure!

I have a Scosche on order now, but heard and saw a few pictures where it didnt match the black gloss of the climate control? Ugg

Yes I've been told that from a few Ts members about the tap's breaking too and them reinforcing them in some key area's a design flaw i'm sure will be corrected hopefully..

Hey guys,

Just kinda tagging along here. I'm planning on getting a 208 SR5 Sequoia also and was asking about the Pioneer units over at edmunds and someone pointed me over here.

The D3 system seems to be a pretty good bargain these days, and I'm kinda psyched about getting that (ipod/BT/rear camera) over the stock system, plus hoping to save some $$ too.

But then I hear that the scotche (sp?) kit doesnt even match the black of the climate control screen, so you have three different black plus the dash all not matching with thier kit??

Well got my AVIC-D3x kit and metra flat black kit w/ harness a few days ago. I was worried about the gloss black or either the Metra kit or others not matching the climate controls, nor the flat matching anything.

Since the Sequoia has a black metallic gloss facing on the stereo and edges touching the stereo from below on the dash I wanted it to look as stock as poss.

I figure what would it hurt to try and color match the color of the stock radio on to the metra flat kit.

Have to say preliminary matching is Perfect with Master Modeler Metallic Black and thier high gloss clear! three light coats over the cleaned metra kit of the black, then two clear coats, and perfect color match! Dont know how it will hold up, but thinking that I use this brand paints on my R/C cars that are Always hitting curbs, wood, etc, and dont flake and I clean them with simple green even occationally with no discolorations, I think it will last for some time. Worst case once every year or three I just remove it to recoat it. Much better IMO then settle for a non stock look and color.

I have to say the install was a Breeze! I have installed everything from a set of speakers to full comp level systems in the past, and over a few dozen of such. This was the easiest full head-unit and function install ever for me! Removal of the dash pieces and such are very easy. All are typical easy to remove and reassemble snaps. not one broke or even hinted at it.

Once it all is remove you see theres Tons of space to work with everywhere, and running wires is cake work. No blocked off sectors behind the dash.

I installed the head unit where it goes, the Sirius and BT adapters in the center console area under the large cup holder piece screwed to the carpet there.

I installed the sat radio and nav antenna's under the center channel grille where the speaker would go. I read that most all had luck here with signal. I was sceptical at first but figured it was the cleanest install if it worked. Proved to give 5-6 sat signals all at 2-3 bars. Sat radio flawless reception so far. I took a 2" wide strap of sheet metal and screwed that to the stock holes for the speaker. Then double sided taped a 4"x4" plate of the same material to that strap. Then just placed the two antenna's side by side on that plate directly under the hole cutout on the grille cover.

The upper glove box was the great place for the ipod cable to protrude into . I also tow with my Seq, so I also did a prodigy brake controller in this box. It turned out like it was ment to be there from Toyota. The controller fits great and the ipod is allowed a nice place to be secluded as well as easily assesable, when needed.

I did the pioneer mod to allow usage of all the vid and nav while no parking brake, that works nicely. And all write-ups for the Tundra worked good, EXCEPT!

Here is the only issue so far. The Tundra write up for nav instal shows the Reverse tie-in to be pass kick panel and a given plug and color. NOT TRUE OR SAME ON SEQUOIA! at least not mine haha.

I have yet to really look or research where the reverse light relay is on the Seq, but if anyone knows, that would be GREAT!

All in all for less then 800 to my door Pioneer setup and the paint and such, I cant say enough good things so far about this purchase and install ease. I believe that even a semi compitent person could do this with some time.

Picture will be taken soon and added to my gallery, when time permits.

I was considering getting the 08 Sequoia w/ GPS, rear entertainment system & backup camera. Now that I've read this thread, I think I could do better with an after market install. So I have a few questions for you guys.

1. What would be the best options to buy with the Sequoia if I were to go aftermarket? Everything I want, minus GPS, RES and camera?

2. Is the backup camera still pre-wired for the Sequoia? If so, where is it located in the back and do I need to drill a hole.

3. For the RES, what unit is compatible with the Pioneer Z2? Would the Toyota advertised systems such as the dual headrest dvd players work with it?

4. Will it kill the controls on the steering wheel?

If your reviewing a Z2 like what i have let me say this your getting one hell of a system. One feature about the Z1/Z1 is the Harddrive and that is a huge selling point since you can run a monitor to your rear and play DvD video to yours kid's and have Navi running at the same time on your screen. The dual Mulit level properties on this unit is vastly better vs Oem Toyota and feature wise you end up with Better advancements. If you need help welcome to Pm like others have on Ts.You can still use steering wheel controls with the Pax mod's but loss the bluetooth being Pioneer has the BT 1 but you can use Voice on call features and say call Mom and the unit does that too.

Yeah I dont like the single slot player either, but will be adding a cd/dvd changer I think. 6 disk is under 500 and I can just pop the top of the console off (literally pop) and plug it in the end of the IPBus on at the Siruis box and grab power there also. Then mount it in the Way oversized center console on one side. That is the only downside so far over what it had stock. 6cd is nice compared to no cd nav or no nav - single cd/dvd.

mine has a single but I have hdd and the hard drive burns all my cd library on the navi system. my 80 gig system pulls in a lot of features and I don't carry cds in my truck.another nice aspect is my navi system can also reply to my voice command on my burned hdd library. in the future cd changers will be phased out very likely happening now.

Still doesn't work all that well when it is aftermarket. Speed is a little slow still..
