SequoiaGeneral discussion forum for the second generation 2008 and later Toyota Sequoia.
This is a discussion thread titled "Gas prices hurting sales of the 2008? Incentives?", within the Sequoia forum, part of the SUV Forums category.
Re: Gas prices hurting sales of the 2008? Incentives?
Gas prices are killing new car sales. My neighbor who worked at a Ford/Nissan dealership got laid off recently. I want the Sequoia to replace my 2003 4Runner, but won't be purchasing until 9-2009, so hopefully Diane will still be around because NorCal dealers don't deal.
Re: Gas prices hurting sales of the 2008? Incentives?
In dealer today, was told they now have 2000 incentive, another 2000 for former toyota owners, and zero percent interest for 60 months (which I think negates one of the 2000 incentives) .... now if I can just sell my 07 Tundra!
Re: Gas prices hurting sales of the 2008? Incentives?
That is great news! 2K+2K incentive is really lucrative since I've been getting the help of forum members on purchasing a Sequoia. Now need to find time from work to go to a dealer to purchase.
Worked with Diane and got nowhere, she is in internet sales but wants to talk to throw a sales pitch instead of getting pricing on paper. *Really interesting to me and lost my business* Weekend shopping here I come!
Re: Gas prices hurting sales of the 2008? Incentives?
This is when the first on the block owners like me start to get a little ill. These prices are nearly $5,000 below what I paid less than three months ago. Ouch.
Re: Gas prices hurting sales of the 2008? Incentives?
i see the 2000 incentive but not the + 2000
Damn I paid 50k for the 58,095 msrp for my sequoia. I thought i was getting a great deal but if i could have gotten it for 48ish wow.

Being first on the block isn't worth it in the long run
Re: Gas prices hurting sales of the 2008? Incentives?
Glad to help anyone save some dollars. Despite the temporary illness, in my business the time that goes into a deal is worth it's weight in gold. So, to all who priced and bid and haggled out the ying yang, congrats. Hope you enjoyed the experience. To those who don't lose more than a night's sleep over a better deal, enjoy the fact that you got what you wanted and will pay what you thought was fair. If you financed, you can always pay it off early and feel better that you got the best interest rate at the time (not 0 percnt by any scretch but close enough). Great vehicle even at the price point variable!

Went car shopping this weekend and noticed that the incentives must be area/State dependent as in California I only saw the 2k or 0% offered. I was looking for the 2k+2k but didn't see it offered.
Do you think the customer loyalty cash-back is undisclosed for any reason?
Re: Gas prices hurting sales of the 2008? Incentives?
Maybe dealers would know the answer better than others but: Anyone ever attempted to have incentive retroactively applied to recent purchase? Any chance of success? How about on a financing "adjustment" by Toyota Motor Credit on the financing?
Re: Gas prices hurting sales of the 2008? Incentives?
It looks like the Sequoia is one of the few bright spots in Toyota's otherwise stalled line-up of vehicles. Total Sales for the month of May of all vehicle types was down almost 8% vs a year ago. The new Sequoia is up 75% over the same month a year ago and up 27% YTD vs last year. Not all that bad considering the gas price climate. Not what they were forecasting but pretty darn good considering the factors stacked against a 13mpg suv.
Out of the nearly 30 models Toyota sells in the US the only models with 1000+ units sold per month that are actually growing (YTD vs last year) are the Yaris +48%, Camry +.7% (anemic growth), Prius +2.2% (also with anemic growth), Scion xb +57% (quite impressive), Highlander +.3% (anemic), Sequoia +27.4% (nice), Tundra +6.8% (OK). The LX and Landcruiser also had large % growth rates but on very small bases of only a couple of hundred units sold per month.
