SequoiaGeneral discussion forum for the second generation 2008 and later Toyota Sequoia.
This is a discussion thread titled "Sequoia hard to find in Eastern Canada.", within the Sequoia forum, part of the SUV Forums category.
Hello.
I've been an avid reader of this forum ever since I decided to purchase a 2008 Sequoia Platinum. Unfortunately, as the days go by, this is turning rather sour, given the difficulty I'm encountering in actually ordering one and actually getting it within a reasonable timeframe.
Last people I dealt with are the folks at Ste. Foy Toyota in Quebec City. So far, even though they don't have the particular color in stock) have had 2 Plats taken from under their noses, even though, according to them, it was practically a " done deal."
My local dealer says that if I order now, I will get one in ....(gasp) July 2008, which I find to be quite a wait, because I need the vehicle ASAP.
Does anybody have any thoughts on this and what do you think of this situation?
Should I bite the bullet and order it, even though it's going to take many months to get it? Is it possible for dealers to swap vehicles, so that customers get what they want in a timely fashion? Should I wait for the 2009 models (anybody have any idea when they will come out?)
I have bought many new cars in the past and I have never encountered this. Apparently, the Sequoias are literally flying off the dealers' lots as they are delivered in Canada at least. How could have Toyota underestimated the demand? Should I call Toyota corporate headquarters and explain my situation?

Well in my region of Ontario I have three dealers within a 15 minute drive. One dealer has two limiteds, another has one limited and one platinum (B with RR) and the other has a chassis pearl platinum with beige interior..these vehicles have been sitting since launch in February.

I don't know that my experience is of any help to your situation however maybe it is. I ordered my Platinum (RR) in the 2nd week of Dec. It was originally expected to be delivered in mid/late Feb. I was then notified in Jan that it wouldn't be available until late March or early April. With 1 day's notice I received word from the dealer that it was actually arriving in late Feb. So maybe there's hope for taking delivery early since the dealer is probably giving you a worst case scenario.
Why not order one from the U.S. save yourself $10 g's at least and pick it up at your liesure? I know the place I bought my Tundra from 3 weeks ago had a platinum on the lot, even though it's not close to eastern canda you can hire a shipping outfit that wouldn't cost anymore than $2000, and have them ship it to your closest port, still save $8 grand,
And Yes they do sell new to Canadians. Don't email them though,,you have to phone.
Good luck, those are nice units..
To piggyback on BigDaddy, maybe this is seems too obvious (so perhaps its flawed in some way), but with the Canadian dollar trading at 1.014 per $1 USD and given that I was able to get my loaded Platinum just the way I wanted it for $56k and change, isn't it worth it to order from US, buy a plane ticket for $ 400 with all the $ and time you would save and enjoy a great ride back home to Canada in your new Seq now ?
By the way you could fly into Newark NJ and go to James Toyota in Flemnigton NJ they have 12 on the lot of which 4 are Platinums. (its where I got mine... but you would have a 5 or 600 mile trip home to Quebec, so bring a couple hundred bucks extra for your thirsty new beast)

I think the platinum version of the Sequioa is $59k (CAN) so I am not sure it is worth all that hassle.

Plat Sequoias are the same price in Canada now as they are in the US and it's not that easy to just import them, trust me I did my homework when I was just about to purchase one in the US. Thanks for the suggestion thought, mate. http://www.tundrasolutions.com/forum...cons/icon7.gif
Apparently Sequoias aren't that hard to find here...
I did a quarterly physical inventory at one of our dealerships today. On the lot there were at least ten Sequoias, including three Platinum Sequoias (one Black/Red Rock, One Silver/Gray, one blue/gray) four Limiteds, and three SR5s that I recall off hand). And that is a small dealership (three hundred fifty car inventory, new and used total)

How far are you from Clark's Toyota in Summerside, PEI?
I deal with them - they are great. Might be worthwhile to give them a call....
Thanks. I called every single dealer in the Maritimes and Quebec. The Pyrite Mica with RR interior are very hard to find.
I actually have good news. I was able to get a Plat in Mississauga for 69000, tax and shipping included to NB. This is the Pyrite Mica, Red Rock interior. Finalizing the paper work on Monday and according to them, I should have it by next weekend.
Just checked the dealership I bought from, saw a fully loaded Platinum Sticker price was $58k, so knock off at least $5 g's, and should get it for $53K. Plus 10% tax, I don't know I may be wrong and the CDN dollar is going dropping but I would still have to buy down South and save some money.. Did it with my new Tundra less than Month ago..was EASY, and would do it again.
Money in my own pocket is a good thing to me..
I do Love them new SEQUOIA's though.. That's was my hard decision, Tundra or Sequoia.

Have a good time with your new Unit..
The Platinum Sequoias are $58k and change here in the US as well. But (and I know I don't need to remind you) the US dollar is weaker the the Canadian dollar right now...

what am I missing here. Didn't you just say that the Seq Plat is $ 69k in CA ? I think saving 12k + in US is totally worth it. As i said before dollars are nearly on par with our countries, certainly not the norm. To me seems like a very favorable window of opportunity.
The Plat is 59000, MSRP in Canada. With Tax, HST (13% combined), it amounts to 72000$, including the 2000 luxury tax. I got it for 69000$ CND, fully loaded. That's 3000$ off the MSRP, which I consider a good deal.
In the US, a similarly equipped Plat is 59000 $ plus some change.
Whether I had purchased it in the US or Canada at a point when the Canadian $ was at parity or above the US dollar, it wouldn't have made a significant difference. In fact, I would have to find a dealership that would agree to sell me a new car (the dealerships in the states close to NB -Maine, Vermont- would not sell me a new Sequoia). Furthermore, the cost of the trip to the states, the paperwork and the frustration in dealing with customs is not worth the effort.
Can you please explain how you figure that I would have saved money by buying in the US? I Am I missing something here?
