SequoiaGeneral discussion forum for the second generation 2008 and later Toyota Sequoia.
This is a discussion thread titled "Radiator Fan ?", within the Sequoia forum, part of the SUV Forums category.
Does the '08 5.7 Sequoia have a electric radiator fan or a belt driven clutch fan, like the '07/'08 Tundra? Thanks.

Never argue with an idiot. They will bring you down to their level and beat you with experience!
All rear wheel drive Toyotas since the 1960's have a belt driven clutch radiator cooling fans including the $70,000 2008 Lexus LS460.
A few rear wheel drive models also have an electric fan(s) IN ADDITION to the belt driven clutch fan, but they are mounted in front of the AC condenser to help better cool the AC condenser in congested city traffic conditions.
Toyota front wheel drive models with transverse mounted enginee always use thermostatically controlled electric radiator cooling fans because there is no practical way to install a belt driven clutch radiator cooling fans when the engine is mounted sideways.
Ok..........does the '08 Sequoia have an electric fan in addition to a belt driven clutch fan?

I'd be willing to bet 99 out of 100 are clueless about the rad fan type.

I'll check tonight and let you know. I'm certain it has a clutch type fan because the fan speed rises and then falls in sync with the engine revs as soon as you crank the engine. A short while later than fan turns off i.e de-clutches. I'll check to see if there is an auxilary cooling fan.

Kathyricks was right on the money -- the '08 Sequoia has a belt driven cooling fan and an electric auxilary fan that is mounted in front of the A/C condensor. I'll post supporting pics shortly. Tks.
Thanks for the info BUT, you're the FIRST to say the '08 Sequoia SPECIFICALLY has an auxillary electric fan vs saying a few rear wheel drive models (not specific) also have an electric fan(s). Thanks again. My OP was specific to the '08 5.7 Sequoia.

Right. My comments are specific to the Sequoia, but they also validate KathyRick's assertion. Pics below.

PS: Didn't realize how hard it would be to get the camera to focus on the crank fan with all the surrounding stuff. Had to switch from multi-point focusing to center point focus in order to keep the subject sharp.
Well you damn sure figured it out 'cause the pics are great.
