SequoiaGeneral discussion forum for the second generation 2008 and later Toyota Sequoia.
This is a discussion thread titled "Anyone put aftermarket NAV in sequoia?", within the Sequoia forum, part of the SUV Forums category.
I had the pioneer/Garmin nav in my 07 Tundra, used a scoche faceplate and it looked just like factory. Does anyone know if there is a faceplate/adapter for the Sequoia for use of a double din aftermarket NAV?
no its not the same. The tundra is piano or flat black, the sequoia is a metalic off black. you can use one from a tundra in it seq but looks like crap.
I took the flat one from a tundra and used master modelers metalic black and sprayed it with 3 coats and then 2 of thier clear in a semi gloss. THAT makes it a exact match.
I would stear away from Pioneer if your thinking to use it for any kinda bluetooth also. thiers is Soooo hit and miss when you key on, if it connects right or not. used 4 different phones so far and motorola's really have issues and even my crackberry has issues.
My Magnum I went all Alpine and the nav is slightly less refined, it does traffic without the need of a 200$ box and 14$mo to XM for the service. its just 6$ month and nothing extra needed and works great. The pioneer in the avic-D3 or some of their other models, only have one disc slot and to use the nav you have to have the disc in there, and that means no dvd, cd etc. just not friendly in that sense either.
So Kenwood or Alpine, is my recommendation, and go metra dash kit and paint it. Looks stock then. The Seq is Great for the install. Never had a more friendly install vehicle, so much room for modules and wiring and all that.

looking at the newest pioneer - data saved on flash rom instead of dvd - should be faster.

I havent had any issues on the Z1 BT on my system and with the slight revisions Pioneer has done on the BT it's still have one of the very best system's.I can't say the same for Toyota which is secondary rate Crap.
If your comparing the Pioneer on the D3 might want to buy an Hdd Z1 (z2/z3) which is pioneers Top of line system ..The system is soo good on mulitasking it blows the Kenwood and the Alpine in the water. Alpine is a good system too My parent's have that on there Oem accord Navi and Honda makes a hell of a better system vs anything Toyota has added at present in there audio systems.

I have installed AVIC D3, BT with Metra High Gloss Piano Finish on my 08 Seq. Looks very stock. The minor color diff is not noticeable. No issues so far (2 months)

See the attached pics. The slight difference you will see in flash light is not noticable. Note the 5 CD changer in center console, BT on right side of driver seat and mic on steering column. No complaints so far.
I believe for stereo mounted controls, you have to use another adapter. Search for it and you will get some info.
F series pioneer is much better, you get flash memory nav, CD/DVD and BT all built-in into one for under 900 $
i would hope that someone would build an adapter so i could use the stock microphone and steering wheel controls.
off the subject but i have the 14 speaker jbl syn. system in my new limited. i have a 08 ford sd with their "audiophile" package - it was around $500 extra. the fords sound absolutely trumps the jbl in the seq. it is almost as good as some of my prior custom within reason systems. its sub is weak but fine for my style of listening. i have been an audiophile for many years and when i drive the truck on weekends i can't get over how much better the stock sound is in it. the jbl system sounds muddy and has some series issues in freq response. i wonder if it is the speakers, headunit/amp, or source? i think i might start replacing the stock speakers first. does anyone know if the jbl synthesis unit has a separate amp or if the headunit also helps drive at least some of the speakers.
