Looking to purchase my first Toyota. I am pretty disappointed that this great vehicle goes not come with HID's. Has anyone added HID's to there sequoia and is there a write up anywhere?
I am almost certain you will find more information on HIDs in the Tundra portion of the forum (simply because there is a little more traffic over there). I know that many guys have added HIDs to their Tundras and I am sure you can find some good information on them.
It is slightly disappointing that such a magnificent vehicle does not include HIDs. However, I bet you would be even more disappointed if you forked over the $56,000+ for a Lexus GX 470 or the $60,000+ for a Toyota Land Cruiser or (this one really gets me) the $80,000+ for a Lexus LX 570 with tons of equipment and still you don't get HIDs. Toyota/Lexus for some reason is very hesitant to put HIDs into their large SUVs. Apparently they have not realized that EVERY company is doing it now (Cadillac in the Escalade, Mercedes-Benz in the GL, Infiniti in the QX56, among others).
Also, did you get one of the first 2009s? Or did you get a 2008? Or are you waiting on a 2009? I didn't realize the 2009 Sequoias had started arriving in dealerships.

Thanks for the feedback. I am in current talks with a few dealerships and hence, have not ordered the new Sequoia yet.
It is indeed ridiculous that Toyota does not put HID's on any SUV's.
Negotiate the pants off of these guys. I work in the industry and there are a ton of them to be had. They obviously aren't flying off the lots, so get the best deal you can.
The only SUV that Toyota/Lexus produces with HIDs is the Lexus RX350/400h. One day they'll figure it out with the Sequoia so that people like me who have the Tundra can scoop up some OEM Toyota HIDs and drop them into our Tundras
Happy negotiations!

do the seq headlights blind everyone like our tundras do? i get flashed from people thinking my brights are on when its the lows....its been posted over in our forum how high they are aimed from the factory....even adding HID bulbs wouldnt be the full deal as i would think u would need auto leveling headlights to compensate for the SUVs carrying capacity etc since ours being plain halogens are aimed too high and even when adjusted lower still blind people when the boat is attached....but im with u guys....why dont they offer them from the factory?

Thanks. Every car I've had in the last few years has had HID's and I cant live without them. I even had them retro-fitted to my 2000 supercharged maxima. Nothing beats the hid's that come from the factory.

I dont think current Sequoia's have an auto-leveling feature, but I could be wrong. HID bulbs are not even worth the $50 spent..
I installed a pair of 8000's on my 08 Plat and have not had any complaints. I have not had a single person flash me because my lights are to high. I drive the back roads going to my vacation house and they are very very nice. My next thing I am planing is to do the fog light so they match in color.

I am surprised that you haven't had any complaints. Because like 07DC said, we get flashed all the time because our lights are right up in people's faces. I am surprised that auto-leveling hasn't been added to pick up trucks and large SUVs that can pull heavy loads that would (obviously) alter the angle of their headlights...I mean, it's not one of those huge deals...just a small way to improve...

8000K hid's? Are those a deep blue color? Any pics would be greatly appreciated.
Yes they have a blue tint to them. Not as blue as the 10,000 but yes they do look blue. I have tried the 6,000 and the 5,000 but have noticed the 8,000 do light the road up the best. I now have to buy a set for the fog lights as they look yellow and the head light are bluish. I want them to match. It take all of 20 minutes to put them in, mounting the ballast is where your going to spend the most time. I used double stick Velcro and it works great.
i just got my 08 sequoia yesterday and i want to install HID's on it. I had a 07 camry that i traded in for my sequoia and i had HID's i installed on it myself and before i gave up my camry i took out my ballast's/ignitors. They are the slim denso ones from a IS300. as for the bulbs... they didnt come out so easy because i had to epoxy them to the bulb insert part of the headlight (i shaved off the 3 prongs that twist & lock a normal bulb so the hid bulbs fit in. i thought i was keeping the car for good) since dont want to destroy my headlights again, are their quality hid bulbs that fit into the sequoia's bulb insert? (dont even know what size the bulbs are yet) can somebody post a link to some please? the bulbs in my camry were 4300k they were nice and white but i want them a little more blue.
My guess is there are many folks interested in HIDs for their 08 Sequoia/Tundra. I know I am. I'm just not aware of any simple plug & play, off the shelf, proven HID upgrades.
I for one am not interested in trimming plastic, gluing, soldering or any other fabrication changes or wiring changes just to get HIDs. If I could buy an aftermarket HID plug-in that gets me brighter, whiter headlights and foglights w/o risk of wiring meltdowns or lost of light coverage, I would sign up tomorrow regardless of cost.

If you're just looking for whiter/brighter, would you want to try those Sylvania ones? They say they are both whiter and brighter without the HID. I think that is quite simply just changing bulbs. I have thought about it but am not sure if it is that worth it...or if I'll just get the same result as my factory OEM lightbulb...
