This is a discussion thread titled "Rear bumper protection....", within the Sequoia forum, part of the SUV Forums category.
hey guys, need some protection for my rear bumper from crazy parking lot drivers/parallel parkers. a member here on the forum uses a tow hook as a deterant, but i think a ball mount would look nicer. i dont tow anyting yet, so iam not sure what size to get, but i found this, looks nice and cheap, whatcha guys think....
I think that since the main purpose is simply to protect your bumper, anything that looks nice to you will work and there's no sense in buying something too expensive.
When you finally get around to getting a trailer to tow, you can buy the right size mount and ball to match it .
I went with the tow hook because I also did not have anything to tow, but I did go off-road occasionally so I figured it might be useful if I got stuck anywhere. Also, the black hook did not really stand out that much from a distance (and was much more menacing when you got close ).
Have a welding shop make you a secondary bumper that will fit in the towing receiver. You can have it made to do what ever you want and how ever you want it to look like.
A ball hitch is a great deterrant to "Braile" parkers.
I also have a 2005 Corvette and it's impossible to parallel park it. Other vehicles would ride right over the nose. I need to search for other places to park.
I can attest to the fact that a trailer hitch will save your rear pumper. I rear-ended my friends Gen 1 tundra with my old GM 1500 at about 15mph (long story as to why I hit him...) but the result was:
Bumper - 0
Hitch - 1
My bumper looked like a giant smashed it in with a sledge hammer. His hitch had a little mark where I knocked a little bit of rust off.
With my new tundra my hitch never leaves the receiver!

I don't recall driver's in the Fresno/Clovis area being that bad (native borned and raised in the area hell try Atlanta drivers here suck anyway you can get a rear bumper guard. I know performance products made it for the first Gen Tundra/Seq and I would bet that would find the 2008 too.. http://www.performanceproducts4truck...4&cid=1&sid=14
Oh yea Michael Toyota sucks wouldn't buy anything from them much less use there service deptment (still knowen as bad) take my advice ...
thanks man, now i have to answer to people who say "so what'cha towing"? LOL!!!
anywho, now for the front, there is the bull bar
I had a Westin bull bar save my butt in my 01 Yukon XL. The truck tracked out of lane in the snow and swung around, azz first. The bull bar hit an embankment, spun the truck violently in a 360, then the trailer hitch hit the same embankment and shot the truck back into the road. The bull bar brackets were bent and the trailer hitch was absolutely fine. Wiped off the mud, re-hung the exhaust in the rubber hanger and went on my way. Without front protection, the truck would have been toast.
