I have had my 08 Sequoia since July. I love it.
Just recently I tried to plug input video to the Rear LCD via the red/white/yellow RCA jacks on the back of the front console.
I pushed the "Video" button and it correctly switches over and plays the video input fine...however it still plays the audio from the DVD??
If I push the "DVD" button it switches back to DVD correctly, with the DVD audio still playing...but when I hit "Video" it switches to the video input, but everytime still plays the DVD audio.
If I eject the DVD disc, the video input plays but it will still not play the audio of the video input.
Has anyone tried using the video input? Am I doing something wrong?
Did you check the RSE audio settings? You can select which audiosource is being played through the car speakers or the headphones. Maybe in your car it is still set at the DVD audio?
Sorry, did mix up two different things:
1. RSE settings will give you selection of audio BUT:
2. Video audio can ONLY be heard through headphones (at least in my '05 Sequoia) and if and when selected in RSE settings (as suggested before)
I cant believe it...when you use the audio/video rca jacks in the RSE it will NOT play the audio through the surround sound system instead it ONLY plays the audio through the wireless headphones, and I can find no setting to change this either.
How lame and stupid is that??
I have a small portable 500gb audio/video device which I bought specifically so my kids could have all of their movies at their fingertips when going on long trips instead of switching dvd's out and dealing with all of that clutter.
It is beyond my comprehension why they would cripple this feature.

Just tested with my 08 Limited and I get the same thing....I agree that this is a problem. The DVD audio can play over the entire car sound system so why is the VIDEO input blocked to only using the headphones?
Scuzzle
I'm still having this problem.
Can anyone tell me where I go to check the "RSE audio settings" ?
I looked around on the nav screen, audio settings, etc and no luck.
I have the same problem on my Tundra 08 Limited and finally i found a solution i plug the video only in rear AV input and the audio in the front jack AUX and it works fine with car sound system .

Yep this is exactly what we have been doing as well for a work around. It does the job however its not ideal. There is the wire which runs all the way up front, which is a bit unsightly.
But the fact the vehicle cost $50,000 and the RSE alone was like $1500 you would think they wouldnt cripple some basic simple rca audio jack option?
I love the truck but its these small things like this, not being able to use the nav or bluetooth while driving, and other ridiculous limitations.

My guess is that this is a result of lawyers run amuck. They probably evaluated the risk of the driver being distracted by the dialogue of the movie and decided to limit the dvd audio to the headphones.
Doesn't make any sense to me but then neither does the fact that the BT phonebook and the use of finding a destination are disabled in the Nav unit while underway.

Ditto, I have put kid's movies on my iPhone and want to play them for the kids while on trips. The lack of audio was frustrating, so I did the headphone jack to auxiliary port on the dash. Agree it is not ideal, but I hate having to work the DVD. If the iPhone turns out to be a winner for videos, I may just stick the apple tv in the back since there is the 110 outlet.
I need a usb extender to connect from the AV cable to the iPhone charger located in the center console axillary outlet. The unsightly cable is the one running from the iPhone headphone jack to the aux port on the dash.
