i just had a nice 500 mile trip to arizona from bakersfield,ca and out of curiosity i compared the speedometer from my sequoia and my gps (tom tom one) and my sequoia reads 2 mph (miles per hour)faster does this mean instead of averaging 19.8 on my trip up here i really averaged 17.8???? the 07 camry i had read 3 mph higher and everyone on toyotanation confirmed it and said toyota is known to do this so you think your getting better mpg's if you have a gps can you please check your sequoia and post your results. my 06 tundra is dead on.
Actually, I believe quite the opposite. I am not buying the toyota mileage conspiracy. They dont even test the actual vehicle, just the engine so..... I'm not buying it. Secondly, I calculate every tank by hand and have consistently gotten 1.5 to 2.0 mpg better than the computer says my average is....
but the speedometer saying 2 mph faster means the odometer being wrong also so the only way to accuratley get a correct mpg reading is by going a pre-measured distance and then figuring out the mpg. am i right or wrong when i say gps units are very accurate in showing how fast you are going.
so my speedometer/odometer is wrong.... does anyone have this problem? am i right about my mpg being lower that it says? can i get my dealer to adjust this?
got back from arizona yesterday and am relieved now. i reset the trip meter to follow the mile markers (i heard they are also accurate) and after 100 miles my trip meter read 99.6 miles. good enough for me. i also calculated the mpg average by hand (calculator) with the miles i drove according to my gps and compared it to my sequoia's mpg average. exactly the same i guess the speedometer on my sequoia just reads 2 mph faster.
