With Toyota in financial trouble should we not be seeing some better prices at the lot. I'm picking up a '09 Platinum next week that I've had on order and am hoping there isn't a big price drop after I get it.
You won't see much. Toyota has reduced production to get in line with demand. Right now Toyota Sequoia's are pretty hard to come by in the Canadian market especially if there is a specific colour or package you want.
For example, the only Sequioa's that I know of that are still available in the GTA are two Black platinum 4x4 models with Red Rock interior.
Also, at Toyota.ca the Sequioa has been reduced in price by about $4000 compared to last year.
Toyota's financial trouble are not because people are not buying cars (which is part of it). Its because Toyota has too much product and capacity in the marketplace. This is slowly getting adjusted.

So if they have too much product, should that not affect the price? At Toyota.ca the price on a Platinum went up $2510. $59900/'08, $62410/'09 (not sure about the other models).

Well, I got mine back in august for 1000 under invoice, I dont think Toyota has ever sold a car under invoice before.
I didnt think the 09s were ever coming out.
Expect a flatline of price at least for the short term.

Where did you get an 09 model? I haven't heard anything about a release date yet and the dealer said that they may even hold off production a bit due to slow sales.

I think the price is the same in canada and the US for the Sequoia's,remember they are talking canadian dollar which is lower than US dollars.Even here in California they are not alot of 08 Sequoias anymore and the deal is not as sweet anymore as 4-5 months ago when i got mine with $5,000.00 rebate and 0% APR.I think Sequoia here in California has $3,000.00 rebate but the price has gone up also..

Dealer Invoice is not Actual Dealer Cost. You have to know the factory to dealer incentives that are in effect before you know Actual Dealer Cost.
In some cases, for example, a Dealer can still make a $2,000 profit when selling a Toyota for $1,000 under invoice.
Possible, yes. Likely, no. The only time I think we could really "make" more than $1,000 is on a Land Cruiser if we sold at invoice (less incentives if applicable). I process deals on the back end in a central accounting office. I handle one specific Toyota store and see all of the profits (both net and gross). Sequoias saw high incentives back in the summer months when nobody bought big SUVS (gas prices, lack of demand here in the northeast). Now there are still incentives but they are much less. There are huge (and when I say huge, I don't mean $5,000) rebates on Camry (I believe until January it's $1,500 which is a lot on a Camry) because it's off-peak season.
Toyota does not offer "Dealer Cash" very often. Most of the time the rebates that are advertised are all we get. There are some small incentives that are included with every Toyota vehicle, but if we're selling at invoice, we're not making much. In this economy, I see a lot of -$ signs in the net profit.
Not to mention the fact that the net profit displayed in a deal does not even necessarily cover our actual cost. In a dealership group such as the one I work for, there is so much overhead cost (floor planning inventory, general expenses, etc.) that cost quite a bit. It's a tough market, more people are paying cash (that means NO financial reserve from the banks), more people are buying less products (talk about PROFIT MARGINS). Don't get me wrong. Our dealerships are still using Black ink, but the digits after the blank ink are shrinking every month.

Can I ask what you paid? We are looking at buying but are looking for an 08 because we thought we could get a good deal but are not finding much. We were thinking that if we ordered an 09 that there would be little price negotations and we would be paying close to MSRP.

My dealership has an 08 on the lot that has been sitting for a LONG time because it was a demo...I think there are probably still a few out there to be found, it's just a matter of searching and possibly accepting whatever packages are still available...I don't work directly in the dealership so I'm not sure exactly what the deal might be, but maybe I can find out for you? PM or IM me if you'd like...

I got the same amount off of the '09 as I was going to get off an '08 from the same dealer back in August when I ordered it. So I just decided to wait for the '09 since Dec/Jan is when I wanted it anyways. It wasn't a huge discount, but thats what I expected buying a Toyota. There isn't a lot of bargaining room but that's what I like. It's not like buying the Escalade that we looked at with a $17000 rebate and still not knowing if you payed too much or not.
