Default Remote Start and Auto Headlights

I just removed the cheap Audiovox Remote Start the dealer installed and installed an Astrostart RSS-5224. Sweet system with a 1 mile range and 2-way communication (lets you know lock status, whether the truck is running, etc...)

I only have one problem which I also had with he Audiovox. If the lights are set in Auto mode and you either let the remote start timer run out or use the remote start to "stop" the vehicle, the lights stay on and don't turn off at all. Again, this only happens if the lights are set in Auto mode and only at night whereas they need to come on.

Any ideas? I read in another post on a 2005 Tundra that if you shut the truck off and left the truck out the passenger side and didn't open the driver's side door the lights would stay on. Probably the same issue. I'd love to find a way to correct it but don't think it is anything the installer did wrong (since the same issue happened with the dealer-installed system)

My compustar pro turns them off in auto mode. I never move it from auto mode. Call Tas electronice in toledo ohio. They installed it and might give you a tip. Good luck. Mine goes 6000 feet and two paging alarm is awesome. Especially with GM employees being layed off..lol..

I'll check with my installer again. My guess is that since they installed it during the day there was really no way to check this easily. I didn't know if it was a function of the vehicle since the original dealer-installed one did the same thing.

In my wiring manual for the remote start, there is a wire that is used, and it says for Toyota, that provides a signal to shut off the auto headlights if the timer runs out or if you shut it off by remote. You have to tie it in to your door switch wire. Possibly yours has this too?

Brought it back to the installer and he found a way to tweak it to make it work. It didn't have a "Toyota" wire, but now it is set up so that when it starts, the headlights don't come on until you step on the brake (when using the remote start and lights in AUTO mode). Parking lights come on though so you can see the vehicle at night. When it times out or you manually stop it, the parking lights go out and no more issues with the lights staying on indefinitely. I guess this is a common problem with Toyotas from what he told me. I am very happy overall with the installer. Had a few small issues, but all are now fixed and the remote start rocks. I can start the Sequoia from up to a mile away and the 2-way transmitter confirms the status.
