Default Side Molding Rattle?

Anyone else get a rattle from their wheel moldings? I notice an audible tapping at the rear of the vehicle, only at highway speeds. It appears that airflow is getting behind the molding and lifting it away from the vehicle slightly, enough though that when it comes back down it makes an anoying tapping noise (Fiberglass on the metal body). Dealer said that you cannot permanently attach these to the body as they are designed to flex and float on the body, if they were attached hard the fiberglass would snap. He said that that is the way the vehicle was designed and they cant do anything about it. Typical. In my opinion they could have used one more clip for the molding, at the top of the molding on the body, just before the rear door molding starts.

Anyone encounter this? Solutions? My thought is to put some rubber splicing tape on the body or on the moldings to kind of cusion the tapping.

Thanks

I thought those things were an aftermarket part? Are they standard equipment on the Platinums? Can you take them off without exposing any holes in the fenders? I don't like the look of them anyways, they seem to detract from the clean lines of the vehicle. Kinda chops it up. I mean, it doesn't need to look any "beefier." It's HUGE already!

I need to take them off to try my rubber splicing tape idea anyways, so I'll see how it looks with them off. I think they clip on from inside the wheel well so there should not be any holes in the body.

Are we talking about the fender flares?

thanks for the info. I haven't had the time to tackle this project, and haven't driven too much on the highway lately so I have not heard the noise. I'll post again if my solution works.

Have you checked the position of shoulder belt buckles throughout the vehicle? Alot of the noises and tapping that folks hear turns out to simply be nothing more than a shoulder belt buckle that's not lying flat and instead is tapping against the interior plastic. Worth 10 secs to check.
