    Default What's This......Rusty Seat Brackets?!?!

Ok, I picked up my new Sequoia about a month ago, and have a grand whopping 600 miles on it so far. Today, I'm laying the 2nd row seats down to haul a table, and see the seat brackets are all rusty!

I can understand some underbody rust on some components......no new car is completely rust free if you check underneath. But, on the interior, on the seat brackets......come on Toyota.

They appear to have been painted black, and then they obviously sat in an environment ripe for rust creation until they were installed.

I know it's just cosmetic, doesn't affect the metal itself, and shouldn't continue to deteriorate in the vehicle, but it's kind of disappointing to see this. Pics attached. I also noticed that my hitch already has some rust forming as well. Mine was built in Feb, '08 (bought in Feb, '09).

Does anyone else have rusty seat brackets like me? Or, am I just lucky.

Leather seat problems and interior rust (Sequoia)

A few others have noted the same issue. You could complain to your dealer, if it will bother you...can't hurt.

I searched and saw that thread, but it was from 2004 (didn't scroll down to your recent post).

I'm still curious as to whether this is a widespread phenomenon and many or all vehicles have this "issue", or it's isolated to a select few.

I noticed some rust about a year into ownership. Not sure if it was there earlier, but I think that I would have noticed it. If it was a widespread problem, I would expect more threads on it.

Thanks Ohio Mike. I just checked out under the rear storage bin where you had your issue, and they apparently changed the plugs, because mine completely cover the holes, have very little play, and there's no way they'd allow water in.

I checked around, and have no water issues, and see rust nowhere else. The brackets must have been sitting around long before they were installed. If that's my only issue, It's minor. I can live with it.

I just bought a 2010 Tundra CrewMAX and have the same issue with the rear seat brackets. I was told by the "Service" manager that this is "NORMAL" because every seat bracket on every model in their lot has rust.

In no way is this NORMAL. In my 20+ years of owning vehicles I have never had rusted interior. What "Engineer" came up with the idea of leaving bare metal exposed on any item that would be installed on the interior of a $40,000 automobile? I expected more from Toyota and will never recommend them to anyone EVER.

I may start a forum called Toyota rust bucket to see what kind of response I get.

Could you snap some pics? I'd like to see where/what it looks like on the Tundra.

I'm also interested in the pics. I've owned several different brands and work on real trucks. I've yet to see one that doesn't have some type of surface rust on unfinished interior components. While I agree some type of coating should be applied, it's hardly a Toyota specific issue.

Yeah, Johnny...that's what I was thinking. Just trolling along, I guess.

I have this issue too on my 2008 Sequoia Limited. When I griped, the service advisor said "yeah, I have the same problem on my Tundra - don't worry about it".

Sure would be nice to have a direct line to Toyota corporate and not have to deal with the idiots (not all, but most) that work the service drive at the local stealership...
