My wife took the Sequoia to the dealer today for an oil change and when I got home, I checked the invoice to see if it cost what they quoted When I looked it over, I noticed the weight of the oil used was 5w-30, and 6 quarts used. I know the weights are supposed to be 0w-20 or 5w-20 and I think the capacity is more than 6 quarts. I checked the level and it looks to be over full, so that wouldn't be a problem, but I don't know about the 5w-30 weight. Anybody?

This is a very common thing at most dealers, they have 5-30 in bulk and that's what they want to use for everything because its cheaper and faster.
If I go to the dealer I always ask them what oil they are going to use and they always say 5-30, then I tell them that the 5.7 requires 0-20 or 5-20 oil and they look at you funny for a min then look it up and try to charge you 40 bucks more because its synthetic.
Be diligent, also I have them give me the half quart thats left over because I paid for it!
My 5.7 Tundra takes 7.4 qts of Mobile 1 5w20. The weight wont hurt anything but Im concerned about the quantity since I believe the engines are the same and since my NEW Sequoia is coming up on its 1st oil change.

RudyDep,
Do you get any increase in gas mileage with the mobil 1? I believe the oil level is ok, just above the full mark. I talked to the service manager today and he explained that the computer program makes it easy to just put in 5w-30, instead of the proper weight oil. And, he also said that I should be running 5w-30, since the weather is heating up for summer. I told him the owner's manual called for either the 0w or 5w-20, and he tried to tell me that was for winter time only. I guess Toyota forgot to put the summer time owner's manual in the glove box, along with the winter one!
kikerbiker, no, I really didnt see any noticable gain in mileage but in defense, I did add a lift and huge tires, exhaust and intake so I wouldnt really be able to answer that.
TJeeper...Ive been on this forum for quite some time now ( 2yrs ) and it has been verified that these 5.7's do NOT come with synthetic oil from the factory. Go to the Tundra forum and do a search on this to verify.
Thanks
